So - that doesn't really answer the question. Can you comment on the functionality I asked about?

How is Android or iOS involved at all if we're talking about integrating with Google Earth (i.e. on a laptop)? Or, are you only targeting integration with the GE app used on a phone (which, sort of defeats the purpose...)

I wasn't aware of Gaia until this thread... I recently went to their website and "explored the map". The imagery I was looking at was at least 7 years old. Is this common, or do they have more recent imagery when you buy the subscription.

I've heard Basemap is really good but I have been using OnX as well and don't want to break what is not broken

I would assume the imagery is coming from the same source as everyone else. Gaia has been the easiest for me to use and work with. Much better than onx for navigation and laying trails. I used to use onx for finding/staying on public land and Gaia for navigation. Now I can just use Gaia and save $$ and only run one app.

I recently subscribed to Gaia and am enjoying it. There are several 'premium' imagery layers, each with imagery taken at a different time. Most of the imagery is older, but I found their 'Satellite Topo (Feet)' imagery to be <2 years old. Sign up for the free trial and investigate the imagery options.

What's the price point for Gaia and Basemap? I agree, onX is pricey.

I am also wondering the different price points. I just have one state in onX.

You can get a year subscription to Gaia for just $37.

Cheapest you can find onX is $60 on CamoFire. Straight through onX it is $100/yr.

I’m a Gaia fan as well. I originally bought it because I could get ownership for multiple states much cheaper than OnX. I ended up really liking Gaia and have stuck with it.

I tried the GAIA 7-day trial offered on another website. It wouldn't let me access the hunting layers and then cut me off within 10 or 15 minutes of signing on. That was enough for me.

Been using the maps/layers that Top Rut offers for Google Earth. Has public land layer, topo layer, roads layer. Been pretty good so far.

OnX - like the chip for the GPS. Haven't used the online portion yet.

I had a similar experience, and Gaia fixed it and game me 30 more days of trial. The issue was they had a free, paid, and pro paid version. This was to accommodate legacy members who had begun with the service since day 1. At that time you paid $20 for some extra features. When they rolled out Pro, they did not want to alienate all the previous buyers and created a third tier.

I’m not trying to change your mind, but you may want to inquire, as you could possibly get a new trial.

Still, IMO Gaia is the best but onX is the cleaner version for hunting only. Little things like waypoint icons for deer elk etc, make a quick glance nice, and help for using less battery in field. That being said, I’ve always had way better battery life with Gaia and imo accuracy is much higher. Especially when looking for trails to get you in to challenging places.

I've been using Gaia Pro for everything the past 2 years. I am really enjoying it.

In our hunting group, we have 4 that use Gaia, 3 that use OnX, and 1 that uses HuntStand.

Another thing these companies should focus more on. Gaia had no idea how large the hunting base they had was and has spent most of there time marketing on expedition websites and as a competitor to alltrails for hiking and backpacking. Similarly onx has focused so much on their hunting services, but onx kept their ears to the ground and listened. Now they have realtors using it religiously.

I really believe that in a perfect worl, onx buys Gaia and adds the onx hunt as a layer series. That would get ALL my money lol
