One Tikka, two barrels

I got a little Black Friday crazy and ordered the Tikka T3x 6.5 PRC that was on a big sale. Then the replacement stock and bottom metal, both on a big sale. I haven’t ordered a replacement barrel yet. The intention was a 6.5 PRC to maybe replace my 6.5 Creedmoor to prep for a sheep and caribou hunt in August. The new stock is cut for a Sendero prefit. My current thinking is to get not one, but two barrels the 6.5 PRC, and another in a 30 cal yet to be decided. With a long bolt stop and long magazines, this should work right? Assuming it works, what 30 cal barrel would you add to go along with the 6.5 PRC and a 280AI? I reload and like tinkering to get the right load worked up.

As long at the cartridge matches the bolt face, you can swap anything.

Consistent with Rokslide small cartridge trend, I would add a short barrel 6mm magnum, specifically the 6 NSI (6 PRC wildcat).

I would go with the 300 WSM, short and fat is where it's at. Easier to load for and more consistent powder burn.

I started with a 300wsm and will be swapping to a 6.5prc barrel in the next couple of weeks. I’m holding on to the wsm barrel in case I go on a hunt where there’s a 30 cal minimum. The mags should interchange for wsm/prc. I’m using HCA mags with the factory bottom plastic on this rifle so I can load long.

I have begun accumulating tikka take off barrels in mag cartridges to swap around with my 6.5prc. I will inevitably get bored and then I can spin something else on and not buy a whole other rifle.

You are on the right track just make sure it’s mag bolt face cartridges

An 8 twist 300 wsm so you can shoot the 212 bore rider lrx from barnes. Get in on the December pre-order thread! We need three to order and you would make #2.

Thread 'December $487 prefit group buy, several barrels are a go' https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/december-487-prefit-group-buy-several-barrels-are-a-go.429535/

Then you'd have your long range copper barrel in case you have to hunt somewhere specific.

What’s your experience with this bullet?
You’ve posted this in a few threads already complete with the video links. Are you trying to pump the video or do you have firsthand experience with that bullet and cartridge?

I want to try it, so I'm drumming up interest to see if we can get enough people in on a prefit pre-order.

I'm not a barnes or vortex shill, if that's what you're implying.

There's not really a 30 cal that fits in a Tikka that will do anything a 6.5 PRC won't. A long throated 300 or 7 WSM may have a slight edge beyond 900 yards or so.
I shot a factory 11 twist barrel with 208s for several years and it worked great. But not better than a 6.5 PRC.
HCA magazines are definitely the way to go for SA magnums in a Tikka.

I don’t think your shilling but interest in that turd bullet and cartridge is gonna be a stretch in the forum that leans match bullets and smaller cartridges
Try it and report back, buy 5 barrels so you can get LSI to group buy it and sell the other 4 once you have the results
Take a shot, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take - Michael Scott

eBay has inexpensive take off barrels. Less than $100 and you can down load it to WSM, SAUM, or ‘06 velocity.

I look at .300 Super WSM more like a lower cost, lighter-recoiling option to .338 Lapua Magnum or a CheyTac for ELR.
