I recently took a big game animal. I was a bit perplexed when the animal did not appear to be fazed by my first shot (generally I aim for the heart when possible). So I took a second shot. This was my first secon shot in a very very long time. Upon processing the animal, I did find 2 exit holes and the top 2" of his heart missing.

Man, if I had only waited, I could have saved myself one round

Probably pushing about 35-40 bow and rifle now. I did take a second shot on an animal this year (arrow) and missed but he died within seconds afterward.

The last one I had to put two shots into (some years ago now) was hit right behind the shoulder crease breaking the offside shoulder. I hiked my gear back to the truck and emptied my pack, taking my empty pack, rifle and kill kit down the drainage to the animal.
Upon reaching the buck and about 40 minutes after the shot, I reached down and grabbed the buck by the antlers and he exploded into action, knocking my kill kit out of my hand and knocking me down. He hit a bunch of brush and was attempting to push through it with his antlers tangled in the brush.
I grabbed my gun which was leaning against a tree, bolted a round in and shot him about an inch from the initial shot, dropping him again.
That was the last time I used a solid copper bullet.

My wife is 10 for 10 for her whole hunting career. She’s very patient with her shooting and never takes a shot unless it’s perfect. It can be infuriating in the moment lol, it’s like “come on, come on, come on…” but it always pays off in the end. I had a pretty good streak going until this year I dropped a cow elk with one shot, and then the herd took off and jumped a fence and she was really trying to get up and follow, so I put on more in her for good measure.

Kill a deer or two every year since I was 14. Missed or couldn’t find a bear I shot at 425 this year. Other than that all one shot kills with 30-06 and 270.

The sweet spot seems to be adult calibers under 250 yards.

I was at solid 6. Was. Took 3 shots at my elk this year. One may have done it, 2nd one missed, third sealed the deal. Damn bull fever got me. Start the streak over again next season.

I had a hell of a run for a long time then an Illinois tree branch decided to interrupt my best laid plans in 2021.

Starting over I am 7 for 7.

Deer hunter. Very few of my kills needed more than 1 shot. Most were drt, down and out. Few blood trails.

2019 muley was one such exception. 3 shots on that thing. High shoulder, behind shoulder, then as he took off when i walked up. Neigh unkillable he was until that last shot.
