Deer season starts Saturday here and the M1917 gets the nod for opener.
$100 rifle Eddystone bought few years back.
$50 Bushnell scope
$55 Timney trigger
goodwill belt for a sling 😂
1918 barrel shoots well enough with hand loaded 180 Sierra pro hunter RN

I’ve got a 1917 as well. Was my grandpa’s rifle. I’ve shot it but never hunted with it. It’s not tapped for a scope though and just has irons on it. I’d like to hunt with it at some point as it was his deer rifle. Whenever I look at it I’m always struck by how nice of a rifle they are for a service rifle. They have better blueing than most factory rifles have now days.

1964 marlin lever action, chambered in 44mag. I used it this bear season for the first time in years. I had sort of forgotten how short, balanced and nimble it was, what a fine weapon for still hunting in thick woods!

Swedish Mauser sporters! Our three were built in 1898, 1905, and 1910. Just as practical as anything on the shelf at Cabelas today. I also have an Eddystone M1917 sporter (in my avatar photo) manufactured Nov ‘18 which I’ve used for 25 years. All exceed practical hunting accuracy but the M1917 is a bit heavy. Milsurps of course!

My grandfather’s FN deluxe chambered in .300 Savage. Still shoots dime size groups and revered by my uncles and great uncles as “the 300”! Still wears the Leupold 4x with post reticle. Not sure if the year, but my dad remembers going with my grandfather to pick it up at Sears!

Savage 99 in 30-30. I think the manufacturer date was 1934. I don't actually use it , my son does and it was a gift from his grandfather on his first birthday. For the type of hunting we do in Pa and NY he will never need anything else. I use two Husqvarna Mausers built in the 40's and 50's. One in 30-06 and the one with the beautiful stock is a 9.3x57

Going to hunt rifle deer season this year with my grandfather's 1949 Winchester 94 30-30 and try to be the third generation in my family to kill a buck with it. I've killed a lot of deer with a lot of different rifles, but I've been looking forward to this one for a while.

This 1940 Winchester Model 61 has killed more animals than all my other rifles combined. I’m 3rd generation family owner, will go to my 5 year old son when he’s ready.

One like that was my first deer rifle, 10 years old when I started. Got the magnum fever bought a .264 Win. Mag. ticked my dad off and he sold the 94. Been looking for one for a long time.
Magnum fever bought a lot of rifles.
