One like that was my first deer rifle, 10 years old when I started. Got the magnum fever bought a .264 Win. Mag. ticked my dad off and he sold the 94. Been looking for one for a long time.
If only we had 20/20 in our youth right…

I’m 60. When I turned legal age my dad let my use his side by side 16 gauge Steven’s. I wanted a rifle like all the other hunters/adults in camp. In that day and Michigan big woods - levers….

I saved my money and this fell into my lap. Paid $115. She’s only about 85%, but even back then she shot 1 3/4 with crappy ammo and irons. Silk smooth and light trigger too. I’ve taken a lot of deer with it, and my favorite was late season I’d get down wind of the thick bedding stuff and sneak up on deer and take them as they leapt up at short range.

With my prescription just can’t use those factory irons well. Turbull restorations sells a dove tail optic mount in place of rear and I threw that Burris fast fire 3 on it and that did the trick! All reversible back to original in minutes.

Think I’d rather have an aim point with smaller red dot the Burris is 3 moa making more challenging out to 200.

When I work the gun shows I check out the old timers gun tables. I see a lot of levers here in Michigan Ohio and Indiana. Most common I see is 35 rem, which would be my second choice. Lots of 30-30 and a few 32 win my personal fave. Maybe take a trip in the winter to this area.

Same problem with the eyes but I am 63.
always wore glasses and irons just never were real clear for me so scopes all my life, mostly.
my 44 K98 sporter needs a scout scope mount and optic but have yet to do it.

I definitely considered a 2x scope scout style. For me, an rmr or quality red dot just had a more open feel and much better field of view. I felt for a 200 yard gun I didn’t need magnification. I also felt scope presented cheek weld problems and I already added that leather pad which is 3/4”. I’m very happy with this set up.

Dad gave me a sporterized 1917 and shot my 1st deer with it this year after mounting a new scope.

He got it in a trade in the 80's and never really shot it much.

Working to get it back in shape this offseason.

Sounds like the route I need to go someday.

I don’t know if this exactly counts— but my younger brother duffed it on a BOAL, I mean an absolute toad of a bull, and I got one of the worst scope bites I’ve ever received from an Argentine Mauser handed down by our grandfather. Still sitting in Dad’s closet and I still giggle like a girl every time I think about that rifle.
Huh? 🧐

I have a 1895 405 Winchester that I take for a walk every so often. Never really killed anything with it but if I draw a Custer Buffalo tag ever it will definitely be going along.

Model 94 .30WCF, circa 1899. Last hunt was a couple years ago to Kodiak for goats and deer, but we weren’t able to connect on the goats with it.
