I’ve got an older Ruger M77 .243 that I bought a new Leupold 3.5-10/40MM with a 30mm tube. My snafu is finding good scope rings. I would think I could reuse the old rings(the scope measurements are the same) but these rings are 30 years old. With an upgraded scope I’d like new rings. I’m looking for someone’s advise that has went through the same thing recently.

There's nothing wrong with older steel rings, as long as they are in good serviceable condition. Sometimes they are better than new rings. Leupold rings are a good example. I will not use their newer rings for any reason. The older US made ones are good. Warne rings are great, but not as easy to install as some other types.

Agree on the old Leupold rings.
Leupold STD mounts were all I used for probably 35 years til I started experimenting with some others about 10 years ago.
I have two rifles with STD mounts and Nikon scopes that were mounted 34 and 32 years ago and have never needed the zero adjusted. I'd bet there's been over 600 whitetail killed with that a-bolt and Remington 7400 combined. If I haven't been using them, a buddy/wife/brother have.
Also have other old a-bolts and 7400s with STD mounts which have also been bombproof. Some 7 mag and 300 win mag.
Heck I have 2 45-70s using STD mounts.

BTW, I'm using the old Ruger mounts on original M77s in 7 mag and 30-06 without complaints. Had a 300wm M77 with factory rings that got passed around the neighborhood like a really cheap date that put out. The old Leupold vari-x II never lost zero in them. Someone finally struck it rich and offered me way more than it was worth. Old rascal thumped ya.

I like the old Ruger mounts as well. I also like the older Burris and Redfield mounts.

Yes sir. The older Burris and Redfield are pretty much interchangeable with the Leupold STD mounts. Millet sold some like that also, but theirs seemed lighter. Millet also sold some really pretty engraved rings.

I tried 2 different sets of warne rings on an old ruger tang safety I had and neither would get tight. Ended up just buying ruger rings

Did you get your rings to work out? Is your scope 30mm or 1" tube?
