Still taking too much time, but getting faster. Hopefully can get the process refined to the point it that it will be feasible to use for educational purposes.

What a cool looking ram! He looks ancient old but its hard for me to see how old. I feel like I'm missing several annuli but they're not obvious to me. For example; I feel like I'm missing another annuli between the lamb tips and year 2 - huge mass. I can easily get 9 years old but I'm thinking you're going to tell me I missed by 4 to 5 years too young. I really appreciate you sharing these models. What a wonderful way to educate hunters with real views on real animals.

I get at least 9 as well, but can see it being older. I’ve killed a couple 10yo rams that look younger than that! The broomed portion can throw it off

Heavy ram, I don’t count the rings it looks like I would have thought. Seems like a few false but I can only get 9.?

I believe it is unusual - however, I can check with a sheep biologist. Will try to find out tomorrow.

The ram is a pretty clean “seven” - certainly not my general first impression.

I only got 7. But there was only one angle that made me confident about that 7.

Thanks for sharing. I figured he had one ring right near the base. I figured he had one since the "growing" ring was the same size or maybe slightly more than the previous year. Cool to see different rams. I have a few broomed rams, they are my just as cool as the long tipped ones.

I appreciate everyone’s participation in this thread. One thing that has been driven home to me over the past few years is individual variations with these horn characteristics and the consistency of these horns growing in a cylindrical helix.

Maybe someone could shed some light as to why the annulus noted in red wouldn't put the ram at 8 - it appears to encircle the horn? I was under the impression that you can tell the difference between a false annuli and real one by whether the groove completely encircles the horn?

Though a groove completely circling the horn is a characteristic of a true growth ring, it is not unique to true growth grooves. Some false growth grooves also show a strong groove encircling the horn.
