OK, so my first Alaska Sheep Hunt and my first Backpack-In hunt. I'm looking at going in 10+ miles on foot for an 11 day trip. Archery. Again - Dall Sheep. Chugach Park October 1-10.
What am I missing, what am I over packing? I have 1 other person who is semi-committed... he should let me know this upcoming weekend before I go into full panic 'find a hunt partner' mode.

I’d drop a knife and the strop. I personally wouldn’t take bear spray. Definitely drop the saw, meat thermometer, and seasoning. GoPro just adds unnecessary weight as well.

I too would try and get some new boots. Danner pronghorns are not made for steep ground. I’ve heard of a lot of ankle injury’s from guys wearing pronghorns. My own pronghorns had all the padding on the insole bunch up from spending to much time on steep ground and became very uncomfortable.

Ditch the saw, get the Briksdal I’d get the SF version. The GoPro, battery bank and solar charger would stay if it were me.

for water I carry a sawyer mini and a platapus 2L bag for it. But there keeping if from freezing might need to be planned for.

I would weigh your stuff and see where you are at. I would up grade the danner boots to something that’s stiffer. I love my danner boots but have rolled my ankles in them so I only use them in flat land situations. I don’t see a puffy jacket or pant in there? I would only bring one sock and one underwear In my pack and switch it with what I have on. Use some wet wipes to clean everything up and you’ll save space and room. When I buy stuff I’m conscious of weight and quality. I would ditch a couple gear items also.

Similar to other posts, get a good stiff boot with full rand. Make sure they are tried prior to departing.

I’ve really grown to appreciate Havalon knives. Also sort of common sense, but keep your spare batteries near your body for warmth.

So I have a pair of Briksdals that are supposed to arrive Saturday. I’ll test them out by walking in the gym on a treadmill and stair stepper as they can’t be worn outside if I want to return them.

If they feel good I have a short Caribou Hunt Tuesday, possibly overnight, next week. So that will let me hike in them some to break them in.

I also got the Kuiu Chugach Rain gear, Kings XKG gaiters coming. I am still working on a few other pieces but have almost everything but need some sort of a pack lid... thinking about getting a dry bag for my tent or sleeping bag and strapping it to the top.
I also finally got a commitment from a hunting buddy so I’m excited and we are bouncing stuff off each other which has made this all so much more exciting to have someone else invested! Hoping the Briksdals’s work for my feet!
