@Formidilosus is it linear or 1 for 1 on changes in DBa day to day? In other words, if the control (Ul7) typically is around 130 dba but today it is 132 dba, would the can being tested against it typically be 2 dba higher on that day as well?

Generally yes. Cans are weird- multiple times cans that are actually louder on average will meter lower than a can that is actually quieter on average. Also, cans do weird things with different powder volumes and bore sizes- the “best” can, isn’t always the best can with every cartridge.

18" 25prc @2900fps w/ab raptor 10 w/o reflex
vs
21" 25 creed @2700fps w/og6.5 or al6.5

The actual db#'s for this kind of scenario would be interesting to me.

@Unknown Suppressors @Formidilosus

I'm seeing a discrepancy between the US website OG65 product page and the Rokslide eval thread; both show 129.5 dB, but the US website says 24" bbl and the eval says 20" bbl. Can someone clarify for me please? Thanks!

Different days, different environmentals. Suppressors are not “X” dB every day, everywhere. They vary from day to day, and can to can. Not only that, but they carry from ammo to ammo. Suppressors dB reduction is not a hard number, it is a range or average.

Beyond that- US tends towards the worse average in what they state, not the best.

Ok. I understand that there are day-to-day changes in dB readings, but I'm just trying to follow what you're saying... there was a test with a 24" bbl and a separate test with a 20" bbl and they both metered 129.5?

Yes? I’m not sure what you are getting at. If they tested with 24” barrel again, and I did with a 20” barrel- I’m guessing it’s unlikely they would be the same. If I reshoot the same 20” barrel, it won’t be the same as the first time I did.

I think what he wants to know - as do I - is whether there is a measurable difference, under the same conditions, between a 24” barrel and a 20” barrel at SE.

If that is what he is asking, then why not just ask it? It doesn’t make any sense.

And yes, like anything else- any change will result on average a change in performance.

That was not my question, but it is related I suppose.

Yes? I’m not sure what you are getting at.

I'm not trying to be confusing.

I'm seeing identical dB readings (129.5) from the same cartridge/ammo combo (6.5CM/140ELDM), but two different barrel lengths (20" and 24") and my question is:

Is that correct or is there a typo somewhere?

Sounds like you're saying "Readings change day-to-day. Tests were done with both 20 in and 24 in barrels and it's just coincidence that they both metered 129.5 db". Do I have that right?

Yes. You have an uninterrupted video- what else would it be?
