6.5 CM, 20” barrel, Hornady 140gr ELD-M

OG65 averaged 129.5 dBA SE



Control TBAC UL7 Gen 2 averaged 129.2 dBA SE



7 PRC, 20” barrel, Hornady 160gr CX:

NOTE: The OG65 is not sold as a 7mm can. However, there was sufficient clearance with this rifle and bore.

@Formidilosus is it linear or 1 for 1 on changes in DBa day to day? In other words, if the control (Ul7) typically is around 130 dba but today it is 132 dba, would the can being tested against it typically be 2 dba higher on that day as well?

Generally yes. Cans are weird- multiple times cans that are actually louder on average will meter lower than a can that is actually quieter on average. Also, cans do weird things with different powder volumes and bore sizes- the “best” can, isn’t always the best can with every cartridge.
