OG Suppressor Alleged Design Flaw.

Over the past few weeks I have been turned over to the dark side and bought a suppressor.

Sadly the suppressor, an OG 30, is in jail still. I did however hear some interesting opinions about how the OG will lose accuracy due to pine needles or other debris getting between the barrel and suppressor wall.

Based on the build of the rifle it will go on I’m not worried about it. I wanted to see what guys who have used reflex style suppressors have to say about this rather odd opinion.

Needless to say I’m still excited to get my hands on the OG 30!

What’s the difference in pine needles getting between the stock and barrel,in action?
I think you have a duty to keep a eye on stuff.

Meh. Maybe. if the stuff is big enough I guess anything is possible.

I just unscrewed my OG, and found some cheatgrass seeds. Hadn’t noticed any accuracy changes.

I’ve noticed myself checking the area between the barrel and reflex often since I got mine, and I certainly think about it but I have never noticed anything material in there..

Reflex cans have been around for a long time, well before UM, I think this is a non issue.

I’ve been using a reflex suppressor (AB Raptor) for 6 years and have not seen any POI shifts from this during that time. I think there is more a tendency to get debris between the stock and barrel because brush slides along the barrel and sticks in the crack. Doesn’t work the same way with a reflex because it goes all the way around the barrel. That’s not saying you can’t get anything in the reflex, just that it’s less likely.

US needs to start testing with needles from at least 5 different species of pine trees.

Wouldn't gravity let them fall out? Maybe just take the can off and check?

Not the same but along the same lines. I was just around another hunter who had one of these cans. It rained, a lot. Could there be an issue with water and moisture being able to get inside the back end of the suppressor? Not accuracy like this post is suggesting, but seems like a bad place for moisture to sit.

A suppressor is mounted concentric to the bore. the reflex portion is 3-4". There would need to be an extreme amount of debris crammed in there to create enough force. A barrel is a long lever and does not require much force to deviate. Seems like people are worrying about a non-issue.
Can water and snow get in there? Sure. How often are you carrying your rifle muzzle down? All of these perceived "flaws" are far more likely to happen to any rifle and rifle stock, yet no one calls a bedded riflestock a "design flaw"

Generally debris between a stock and a barrel is bad because it changes the harmonics.

If a pine needle is in between the suppressor and barrel id think it would simply behave as the same mass and just ride with the normal oscillation.

Drop testing is out, leaf drop testing is in.

I frequently dose my rifle barrels/ cans w cold running water so that I can continue shooting w out mirage- enough that a couple empties have failed to eject r/t bolt gumming up from all the water / spent powder, no changes in groups or ability to fire a Tikka. There is no issue w the US suppressor and H2O or debris if you are half way paying attn. Drenching rifles/ loaded roads- you are prob going to see some pressure increases.

Quit listening to whoever said that BS. I have been using OTB cans for years with no issues.
