Off season for the dogs 26

Thank You...but EVERY social media post across the US seem like everyone scored at least one 11 and their scores start with a 7.

I am the first guy who will tell you good scores are important, but things happen. This is not a system where the dogs are measured against each other, but the people are competitive by nature and will interpret it like their dog won a Hegwald or Kleeman or AA.

Btw 7 means GOOD. I know in America good means OK but in German good means good. So, don't stress your self on a score. Stress yourself on making your dog a solid, multi-purpose dog.

When you look back and your dog has passed very hard tests and has matured into a solid hunting dog that makes you feel much better.

I am using the off season time for training for a 20 hour blood tracking test. It will test her drive and use of nose to the fullest. If she passes it, I will breed her.

These are my two DLs, aunt on the right and her niece on the left.Dl22.JPG

Last weeks training group set up.
Red=Marks Blue=Blinds

M1 was a walk up mark
Throw M2 and M3
M3 was the go bird
3/4 of the way back from M3 throw M4 as a diversion bird
Pick up M4
Pick up M2
Pick up M1
Pick up B1 as a Blind.
That's a lot for an 11 month old pup but he hit them all.

Which way was the wind and I wish I had that tech water and a training group. Watch those young dogs so they don’t start head swinging on multiples.

@BucksNBulls

Are you running your dog in AKC, HRC or NAHRA?

I have trained with an HRC club in NY. I quite liked it.
I'll be running both of my dog in Started and Seasoned test next year.

I have ran both and think seasoned was the hardest for a new handler so many moving parts. Best advice i got train a level ahead of what you are going to run. Im always training with the grand standards as thats the end goal

He will be running AKC for now. I skipped JH and may skip SH and just wait until August/September and run Master. I may run one SH just to test the waters of him in a HT environment and go from there. He is training master level stuff now though. For all I know he will fall apart at a HT or shine. Won't know until I try.

@KickinNDishin registered her pointer puppy for NAVHDA so she can try Natural Ability. This little dog has the confidence to point outside of shotgun range and is going to be a lot of fun.

Water work will need a lot of improvement.

I took the mutt just to hang out at the truck, but got invited to work on some backing and steadiness. She will get spayed this weekend, and a big part of me wishes she was a purebred so I could consider breeding her.

The test environment has a special way of bringing out the worst in them. I skipped junior with my last dog and regret it.

I hear you, But I've had at least 5 different trainers, amature and pro tell me running him in a JH would be a waste of time and money with him. That's why I'll probably do a SH for myself and for the pup. I have 5 labs now and I've always thought the other 4 were very well trained and intelligent. Then I got this one and it's not even a contest with the other 4. The other 4 are just meat dogs, but good ones.

I won’t run another junior/started test with my next dog but on my way to getting hrch/mh that line time was valuable. The biggest problem at the lower stakes most new handlers won’t pull the dog when they should and the bad habits form.

If you have that much access to and contact with other guys running dogs at the same time then the lower stakes could well be pointless. I've not ever had that luxury on a regular basis

Training days aren’t like test days. I have seen a couple people who’s dogs train great and the wheels fall off when quick decisions need to be made with something on the line.
