% of meat intake is wild game?

We only eat wild salmon and game at home, the only exception being turkey for Thanksgiving. It's probably been close to 11-12 years since we've bought any meat except for as stated above and maybe the occasional chicken. When we do buy poultry we try to get only organic, and when I add fat to my game meat, it's only organic fat. We probably go out to eat once or twice a month, and of course that's never wild game. We have two freezers, an up-right that is full of Kenai River red salmon, and a large chest freezer that's full of moose, caribou, sheep, goat, deer, and occasionally black bear meat. I gotta say, I'm not really fond of bear meat though.

I make my own salami, summer sausage, pepperoni. I have not bought deli meat in a few years now. And I don't add any pork or beef to any of my sausages.... Why ruin good meat with greasy swine.

I guess it's a fine line, but i didn't include eggs. I do not purchase lunch meat, I tend to take leftovers for lunch the majority of the time but on occasions when I make sandwiches i use sliced game salami or sliced game roasts. I also make salmon salad with home canned fish.

This is just what works for us, and it's certainly not a contest. We don't have children who might be picky eaters or have more particular dietary needs, and I am trying to eat a large percentage of our meat by myself (Luke eats at work 2 weeks/month). We don't buy any meat, fish or poultry but I certainly don't judge others who do.

I'm in the same boat as Luke with half my life (not counting vacation) spent at work. Try to eat fish at work as it is all wild caught Alaskan fish. At home I try and eat fish I put up two nights a week and venison or goat is the only red meat in the house. The only meat I buy is the occasional piece of pork, turkey for the holidays etc. (still cook a game roast though too!)!

80% for me and my family. We haven't bought red meat for probably the last 20 years. We home raise pigs and have always had elk, deer, antelope and trout in the freezer. We only buy a couple of chickens a year and we don't eat out a lot. Always have left overs so no need to buy lunch meat.

i wasnt trying to imply it was a competition if thats how my post came off. its just usually when a question like this is asked on the internet the answer needs to directly correlate with how much of a bad ass you are " i only eat what i kill with my bare hands" and all that. i have 2 freezers full of deer and elk and i love fried chicken and bacon, go figure. i guess im just stirring the pot like usual, getting antsy waiting for a few new toys to show up sorry ;)

No worries littlbuf, no offense taken and my comment wasn't directed to you entirely...I agree that there tends to be lot of trying to one up each other in threads like this, and that's what I was trying to address. I can certainly see lots of reasons why people would eat more or less game meat than I do, all of our situations and preferences are different and that's all I was trying to convey. Hope you have cool new toys coming soon :)

I enjoy hunting and that is a very big reason why I do it, but I think it is more important, for me as a hunter, to provide wild, steroid and antibiotic free red meat for my family. I don't really enjoy dip netting all that much as I am the one running the boat, then cleaning all the fish, paying for all the fuel, etc. but there again, I do enjoy eating and feeding my family wild Alaskan salmon. Typically when I hunt I don't try to go after the biggest animal, my main focus is filling the freezer.
As shown with my last kill.

Unfortunately for me I have to work out of town on average 3 days a week and a lot of times have to be at a certain location for several weeks. This forces me to eat a lot of subway due to the fact that there isn't many healthy options in smaller towns in Montana and Wyoming. I due try to get organic stuff from the grocery store and see what I can cook with one of my camp stoves but a lot of times this ends up being to irritating after a long day of work and just wanting to get to the hotel and go to bed.

When I'm home I'm lucky enough to have several family members with cows, so I get good organic grass fed beef. Other then that it's elk, deer, antelope, fresh fish I caught, rabbits and various game birds.

I don't like eating the way I do when out of town but I have to eat on the run a lot of times, which I know isn't good...

Food prep, vac seal and reheat on site for lunch if possible. I spend a few hours on the weekend making food for the week for the exact reason you mentioned above.

During days on its lower, other stuff is easier to get.... During days off though i have elk sausage for breakfast, have some elk summer sausage i munch on for snacks and something elk for dinner (Didnt get a deer this year). I do go out to eat a bit as im 23 and need food every few hours. I rarely cook pork or chicken. I love fresh caught fish, rabbit and gonna be doing a hog hunt in CO this summer so ill work that meat into the group.

You know I've thought about that but have just never done it. I think this weekend I might go take a look at some vacuum sealers and just make my self take the time to make make the food and stop and take a few minutes to reheat it during the weak.

What do you make to eat during the week?

I make lots of wraps out of the spinach wraps.

Turkey Bacon avocado, beans brown rice and meat, eggs and bell peppers. The possibilities are endless.

I like to make a huge crock pot dish and that's usually enough for 3 or 4 days.

This week I cooked 4 bacon wrapped chicken breast. 2 a day.

I add a banana & apple to all this stuff and its more than enough for a day!

95% of red meat at my house is venison. Some catfish, dove, turkey, hope to kill a wild hog this year. Probably 60-70% total. We eat chicken quite a bit. I try to get free range, local, whatever I don't kill myself. It'd be nice to have the variety y'all have out west.

Probably 50-75% for my family. All our red meat is elk, but we eat eggs, lunchmeat and chicken as well. We don't even care to buy the occasional beef steak anymore, too fatty for us anymore. Both the wife and I would rather have an elk steak any day.
