Its getting close now...I can't believe August 23 is fast approaching. Wanted to share some thoughts about this adventure.
  1. I'm hunting MMO for Sheep, Caribou and Moose. My first time for all three. Of the three, only seen a moose in the wild. Booked in 2018 and looks like its going to happen
  2. I'm intimidated - by my the number of days I'll be gone from work and family
  3. I'm frustrated - that waiting two extra Covid years put this trip in the middle of crazy inflation. Truly pushing my financial situation now.
  4. I'm worried about my injured ankle and if it will hold up.
  5. I'm relieved that US Covid testing requirements were dropped last week.
  6. I'm concerned if my weight lose, conditioning and metal toughness will be enough
  7. I'm excited - this is so far out of my box. I've always wanted to do this and at 51 I'll give it a go.
  8. I'm hopefully that I really will be successful with all three.
  9. I'm nervous that I'll have exactly the right gear - Jay Scott, Billy Molls, Jordan Budd, Tyler Freel, Ben Storac, Randy Newberg, Brandon Burns have been my coaches. Countless pod casts and You Tube videos have been careful watched and listened too.
  10. I'm grateful to my wife who doesn't really get this passion for adventure but let's me spend the money without demanding equal time.
  11. I appreciate my elk outfitter Doug Caltrider who encouraged me to go sheep hunting after guiding sheep a couple years himself.
  12. I'm thankful to Rokslide; Nothing for this trip was purcahsed without first checking with all of you on what's worked best.
I'm enjoying a nice afternoon and thought I'd share my thoughts as the big day gets closer!

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. Did you have a chance to go after caribou after your sheep?
Sorry Bones as I didn’t see this earlier. I chose not to go after a bou since Atan raised his kill fees so high. I got one in 2018 with him along with a moose. So this hunt was strictly sheep.

Good luck Eric. You will have a great time. If you can get Ryan Shaw as your guide he will treat you great. Actually all of Stans guides are great. With the use of a chopper he will be able to move you to different locations easily once you get your animal. You still have to hunt hard but it’s easier once an animal is in the ground with the chopper.

You will get all 3 unless you have bad weather, or are picky about any individual species. The sheep and the moose you can hunt and find one you like and go after it. The caribou are the wild card.....they come through when they come through. Excited for you man....truly a trip of a lifetime

There were US hunters in the Mackenzies in mid Sept when I was up there. Their Norman Wells accommodations were a pain otherwise no issues that I heard. NW was in lockdown due to a local outbreak at that time.

Want to close this out. I went to NWT. I loved every minute. Loved my outfitter MMO. Stan was the best and his crew was great. Got my sheep, caribou, and Moose. All in 9 days. The best adventure of my life - next to marriage and hope someday I can go back...though I doubt it with rising prices. It was worth the wait! This chapter is now closed!

Congrats! I have been following this thread for a few years as well. Like others on here would love to see some pics! I was able to finally go on my hunt to the NWT this year and echo your sentiments! No place like it.
