Odd Question: Anyone Enjoy a Good Kicking Gun Like Me?

Enjoy it? Not really. Worst kicking gun I own is my smokeless muzzleloader. I’ve shot it braked and unbraked. Put the brake back on after last season.

I'd bet you can't shoot 20-30 rounds accurately with that stw and not develop a flinch or sore shoulder. That never happens with a braked rifle or something less heavily recoiling.

A 7mm STW in a 12 lb rifle like my Remington Sendero doesn’t recoil all that bad. I shoot 20-30 rounds all the time with good form and don’t develop a flinch. I will shoot it braked in the off season but closer to season I take the brake off.

Yes I enjoy a lot of recoil, sometimes. Putting a few rounds of 350gr .45 bullets at 2200fps through my lever gun that has a crescent butt is certainly fun. But it gets less fun after about 10 shots.

I know a guy that's really into shooting a 338 Lapua, 460 and 500 sw handguns, stuff like that. To me, it makes sense because he's about 5'4". He just has something to prove.

You haven't lived until you shoot a taraus 450ti with 365's at +P. I kept that gun around for those "unaffected by recoil". A 18oz gun has a way of changing ones mind.

I remove all brakes from my hunting rifles. I can’t stand to wear hearing pro when hunting and I often sit with one of my sons in a box blind.

I was doing some final zero confirmation of my Remington Sendero 7mm STW today and I was enjoying the kick. It lets me know the gun is alive and will absolutely wreck any critter in its path.

Anybody else like the “thrill” of a gun that packs a punch?

I SURE DID BACK IN THE DAY. NOW I JUST HAVE A FRIEND PUNCH ME IN THE SHOULDER WHILE YELLING "BANG" IN MY EAR. ITS CHEAPER AND GIVES ME THE SAME THRILL.

BTW, IM JUST YELLING BECAUSE I FIGURE YOU'RE DEAF LIKE ME.

I was going to point out that the STW in a Sendero isn't exactly a recoil machine, once you get into the 180's you feel it a bit, but 160's and it's pretty mild. I haven't found the need for a brake on it.

Now lightweight 300's and heavy bullets I don't care for. My Wby Mag with over 200gr of lead gets pretty unpleasant.

Lately been on the train of smaller, more explosive bullets coupled with more practice.

Good for you. I'm the direct opposite, having recently chopped a 7-08 and suppressed it as well. What's not to like about a mild recoiling, relatively quiet, superbly accurate rifle? Anyone who says they can shoot a hard recoiling rifle as well as a light recoiling rifle is kidding themselves, 'cause you ain't kidding anyone who's been around the block a time or two.

Maybe for Christmas pickup an old single shot 12 gauge and a few boxes of 3 inch brenneke slugs . Bring's back childhood memories of deer hunting. At least some of the ones I can remember after all the concussions! Lol

I HATE brakes…. I thought I was the only one left on earth. I’ll take Recoil over muzzle blast all day every day

I hate brakes and recoil, which is why I switched over to suppressors about 10 years ago.

Now with handguns, a bit of recoil is always nice. My right wrist is starting to take exception to shooting a 30-06 out of a 15" Encore, or a 375 JDJ Contender, but it is still fun!

No, not really. I have a few heavy hitters (on both ends), but I wouldn’t say they’re a joy to shoot. I also wear ear protection wherever and whenever I’m shooting firearms, they can be a bit of a PITA to put in while hunting, but knock on wood, they’ve never caused me to loose my shot opportunity.

I’ve got a little Kimber Adirondack (4lbs 12 oz) that’s chambered in 338 Federal. No brake.
With 200 grain mono’s it certainly packs a punch. I actually really enjoy shooting it. It forces me to really consider my shooting position and also to relax & squeeze the trigger. In a sick way I actually think it helps with getting over flinching & other bad habits that might otherwise go unpunished

Hell no. I carried a braked 6.5 creed AI AT (17ish lbs with scope and bipod). I’m the mountains the last few years.

I’ve killed every animal with a .270, .308 or 6.5 and never felt a need for anything bigger…I take that back, I killed a couple deer with suppressed 5.56 lol
