Odd finds while in the field

We come across some unusual stuff in our travels, and I have seen my share. Let’s see yours.

Ha! I don’t have a picture but I did find a home made climber tree stand. Looked like it had been there for decades. Took a braver man than me to use that thing.

A couple of miles back in SW MT.

Found many of these. Some made into blinds, some teepees. Quit taking pictures I’ve come across so many. None are near each other either.

Not really weird but a place we used to rabbit hunt had been a farm, one day we had a pretty good chase going on in a thicket that upon closer inspection had grown up around all the farms tractors, combines etc. I asked my dad about it and he said the farm failed and all the workers had just walked off and left everything where they were working. It always intrigued me for some reason.

I’ve found some interesting things wash ashore on the beach. A few that come to mind

Message in a bottle from Costa Rica.

The tip of a marlin bill broke off in a plastic pipe it took a swipe at.

Brick of seedy weed

A blob that I’m not sure. Possibly ambergris

12’ handmade boat
Multiple other boats
Very very old truck that was buried under the sand for what looks like decades

Was antelope hunting and found this mostly buried in the ground. Maybe not an odd find, but definitely pretty cool. I’ve spent lots of time imagining how it ended up there, who left it, and how long ago. The stock was completely rotted away and you can see how rust has eaten away much of the barrel, too.

The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen was people wearing masks in the middle of the Pasayten Wilderness.

I found some pottery yesterday. I’ve found pieces in the past but this is the first time I’ve found any with artwork/ designs on them.

Found this old Coors Light floating in a stream deep in the Bob Marshall. Don’t remember seeing that style can any time recently. Tastes just fine

Lol, we were coming down a slope that was almost too steep to get down this year. Took a little breather on a small flat area. Spotted two old bud cans mostly covered in dirt. pulled them out, unopened. They had the old pull tabs.

We considered drinking them, but they were warm and had to be nearly 40 years old. Left them at the base of the tree for the next guys dumb enough to go up/down that steep slope.

Coming down towards Whitney portal from a climb on the east face of Mt Whitney. No mobiles or inreach in those days...

Driving along North Main Divide Road in Northern D15 going towards Indian Truck Trail. Somewhere a little before or after West Horsethief Trail.... I'm glassing and I look over to the East and along the ridge of a finger desceding down from the main ridge... amid the green... I see...Yellow?

A School Bus!? Whoa! Generated more questions than answers, cause I'm like "How in the Hell could it have gotten THERE? I mean... there's only that North Main Divide Road... and I have a hard time thinking somebody was able to drive it in even that far on that particular road. It's a road I just don't see a Bus being able to traverse due to it's physical size alone.

And even if they did/could... they'd have to be driving very carefully/slowly... so I couldn't figure out how this bus ended up the distance it was at away from the road. AND it had trees that had grown thru it. So who knows what year it happened. But.... I'd have thought it would have looked more rusty than it did if it has trees growing thru it. So again generated more questions than answers.

I couldn’t find any pictures, but about 30 years ago a buddy and I found two World War II half tracks up in the ruby mountains in Nevada. They had been used for ore hauling at an old mine. There were some other cool old equipment laying around two… Like a hydraulic drill.
