Odd choice, T/C Compass vs Browning Hells Canyon Speed

Alright this is kind of an odd comparison but im considering the above 2 rifles. Features wise they seem close to me. I got interested in the TC cuz you can get one for 200 after rebate and it has a ton of features like threaded barrel, pillar bedded, rotary magazine and moa garauntee. I was talking to a friend about it and he offered to sell his hells canyon to me for 650. Is this a no brainer? Should i go for the HCS immediately? Is it 3-4x better of a gun? This will be in 6.5 creedmoor and i invision 300+ yrd target practice and antelope hunting.

The tc compass is the best value going right now but it is not nearly as nice as the browning. The stock sucks and the three compass bolts I have had have all been pretty rough. I'm a pretty simple guy, so I really don't see the need to spend extra for a deer gun.... Especially since you can now put the compass in a Boyd's stock.

The Compass safety is a PITA. It is too complicated for the level of finishing they can afford to put into a cheap rifle. The stock is flimsy. The barrel is not threaded. It has a step machined in the barrel with a threaded sleeve glued on. It is about a pound heavier than the X-Bolt you're talking about. Add a laminate stock and you've got a much heavier rifle. Whether or not this is all good or bad depends on the customer.
 
That is a good price on the Browning I would recommend that. Even on sale for $200 I couldn’t get past the safety and crude build on the Compass.

Thanks for the input, I remember reading somewhere that the tc saftey was difficult to actuate quietly. I also did not know they use a threaded sleeve instead of actually threading the barrel. I was leaning to the browning but I think this confirms it.
 
You buy the compass and give me your buddy's number so I can buy the Browning 😁. Seriously though if you have the 650 dont pass up the browning!! You won't regret it.
 
Depends on how much the $450 difference will cut into you scope budget. Aside from all the stuff mentioned , when you actually get down to it , The Compass I have shoots very good for a $175 hunting gun

Sorry to complicate your decision, but you can get the TC Venture for the same cost (or close to it) as the Compass on GunBroker. It too has the rebate, but it has a better stock and trigger than the Compass. I picked up one for less than $200 and it is a very good basic rifle that will do all you need. Shoots very well with both factory loads and handloads.
 
Not even a question. I paid $1000 for my HC speed, and feel like it's worth what I paid. $650 is an absolute steal for that rifle!
