With bear on the brain I figured I would share some of my kills from NY because who doesn't like a bunch of kill pictures??

In my area we are lucky enough to have a huge number of bears overflowing from NJ since they have a ton and have no season. We also have a great early two week bear season in September which offers awesome opportunities especially in the ag areas as the bears basically live in the corn fields and gorge themselves. Can't wait for September!

Feel free to share your bear pictures here!

Here's some big boys that I never could catch up with. Still trying to hit that 500lb mark!

The big boy is a monster my dad shot back in 2012 on our home property that was killing dogs in the neighborhood. Winch couldn't get him off the ground and the scale maxed out at 550lbs with his ass still on the ground 🤯

Here are some NY bears. We have a good population for our area in Albany Co. Ag fields keep them around.

For guys that target bears in the big woods, Where do you focus for bears? Any specific terrain features? I am looking into doing a September hunt in the Catskills as my regular season area isn't part of the early opener. I would assume for feed there are some white oaks that are dropping in Sept on the mountains or the berries are still out near any logging areas.

We’ve killed a few on benches and logging roads. White oaks, red oaks, and poke weed if you have some up in your area. Look for fresh scat, and sometimes digging.

My experience hunting the Catskills> very difficult to pattern a bear that isn’t being baited (which is illegal in NY)…..that said I did kill my only bear on the opening day of the early September opener the first year it started, 2014 I believe. Strange feeling carrying a rifle in shorts….good luck!
