A few weeks ago I came out from a six day hunt. It was about 10 miles out and about 3..5 miles of it was a steep downhill the rest was just rolling hills. I didn’t notice it until the next day but my toe next to the pinky toe was numb.l and overall just didn’t feel normal. Not sure if it was because the joint was swollen or what. Anyways it’s been about 3 weeks now and stills feels funky. Anyone else ever experienced this?

My big toe is numb a month after a hunt. Unfortunately I’m in steel toes all day every day, so I can’t really say if it was numb before. I didn’t pay attention prior to the hunt. It has not improved. Will give it another couple weeks, of no improvement I’ll go see a specialist.

This is completely crazy...my big toe is also numb after a hunt more than a month ago. Went to doc, she said nerve damage from impact and I should wait six weeks to see if it improves. Nerves take long to heal. I agreed to wait 8 weeks just to give her a shot at being right. Still Numb at six weeks though.

My big toe on my left foot went numb two years in a row after weeklong mountain hunts. Both years took about three weeks after the hunt for the numbness to fade away. Same pair of boots both years.

I switched to a different pair of boots and have been back two more years for a week each time in the new boots. No toe numbness at all. Unfortunately the new boots give me heel blisters pretty bad, so I'll most likely be in a different pair the next time I'm on the mountain.

I'm not sure if it had to do with the fit of the boot and the circulation in my foot or what?

I have had this happen several times, usually after packing meat out long distances, in steep terrain, over multiple days. The numbness for me is only in the big toe on my right foot. First time it happened was a couple of years ago when I shot a moose, elk, and bear in the span of a week, with almost every hour of that week spent packing meat, and several of those days being 12-14 hours hiking. (It was an unusually successful season). It took about 3 months to clear up (about Thanksgiving time!.....although I never got creative enough to call it "Thanksgiving Toe"!!!!). My boots seem to fit great otherwise, with no blisters, hot spots, or circurculation problems. Have tried different boots with the same results. Doesn't happen when I'm actually hunting, only packing meat. I just attribute it to carrying a heavy load, and the steep downhills.

My big toes were numb after my elk hunt this year. Been 4 weeks and they are still a little numb. Seems like they are getting better though. Weird.

Yup, alpine toe (but I like Christmas toe better). I get it with stiff boots on my left big toe, goes away after a while
