I just watched a Meateater where Steve and his guest ate raw meat off 2 diferent bucks to see which buck was better. Has any one else eaten raw wild meat. He said it was safe because its a herbivore .

I've tried it once, per Steve's guidance in the Meateater cookbook. I didn't get sick.

It's not half bad. And now I can tell people that I've tried it!:D

I personally would not eat raw meat even if it was from a herbivore. There is to much chance of contamination from bacteria. I definitely love to cook it hot and fast so it is rare, but not raw.

Had venison ceviche a couple times. Pretty good, but not what you are talking. I think it's ok off a fresh kill, but still would have it's risks. Cooking rare mitigates alot of risk(Exterior of whole muscle meat most likely to be exposed to pathogens) and still allows you to taste "raw" meat. Everyone has different comfort levels.... and I wouldn't do it because Rinella did it; he has eaten alot of chit most consider inedible.

I took a bite out of the raw heart on the first mule deer, elk and antelope that I killed because I was told that was normal. I kind of knew better but it was still fun. Didn’t taste terrible.

My friend that I cut meat with does it all the time with no ill effects. I reference him because I cook my meat.
