Hey all.

I'm not sure if the 10-post minimum is a blessing or a curse, but it made me make this post, so I'll make the best of it.

I have a Seekins Element in 7 PRC that I plan on using on Deer/Elk in Az. Since it's a light rifle, if said I wanted to focus on a light optic and think I've settled on a Swarovski Z3 4-12. Although 7 PRC can go well past 300 yards, I don't plan on shooting past it, so that's why I've settled on that magnification range.

I would like to you get your opinions on where I maybe went wrong with this decision, and if there are other things I should consider.

Thanks all!

Great question Nica...let's say 1500... As mentioned, I would like to prioritize weight which has largely ruled out larger magnification (and higher cost) scopes, but I'm open to suggestions...

Use what works for you.
All the scopes I use are variables and 20x or more on the high end. For 1500 ish I'd get the new Tenmile hx ffp 25x, $1600 from europtic if you email them. It's not a light scope though. The Maven rs 1.2 is OK and around $1200.

Dialing or holdovers? Questions require answers 😉

Hmm...Honest question...is there a both option?

If there were time, I would prefer dialing...but if not, I guess holdovers would suffice...
Well, a couple of models of the z3 allow for dialing. Not much else is in that weight category. If you have read here much, you know that light often means “fragile” … which side of the light vs. fragile scale do you want to land on?

I was actually just on their site...did a little reading and looks like people really like this scope for hunting. 20.6oz is a little heavy compared to the 12.5 for the Z3 though...but not off the table...
For your application and yardage it’s an excellent “point and click” scope with a very good MIL reticle.

Mount it in known/good rings torqued properly and you’ll be amazed the abuse it can take and still remained zeroed. I’ve put multiple of them through hell here at home in AZ and many other states shooting and hunting.

How fragile are we talking? Like break from repetitive recoil fragile, or fragile if dropped?

As for @CRJR45 , I Credo was high on my list at one point, but heavier...but I recall reading it was a tank (strong) so that's a plus...

Thanks @mxgsfmdpx ...I'll take a closer look.

So,we all have opinions… but 300 yds is pretty much point blank zero for most modern cartridges. If it were me, I’d hit the easy button and put on a trijicon Ascent 3-12x40. More than capable of what you are describing and a good balance of weight and strength.

How is the Ascent vs the Credo? I'll look while you respond, but figure you have a reason why you picked that...

Let’s get your post count up…. And mine too while whe are at it. Honest questions though….. what’s your motivation for “light” in your setup, and what determines your 300 yard limit?

Thanks! Yea...so the weight is partly because I have this damn Mammoth challenge in the back of my mind and weight = pain is in my mind, but honestly this isn't the gun for that match and I'm not man enough to do that challenge anyway....so maybe it's really not that big of a deal.

As for 300 yards, well I've just been reading it's probably not the most ethical to take shots much further than that, but I'm sure that might just be bullcrap.

But there you have it...my 2 reasons for those.

@Nicaburns , I think I found out why you mentioned the Ascent...looks like it's 5oz lighter...(price is nice too!)

Understood. Everybody sets their own limits and should stick to them.

Preference in magnification is personal, for me I would look for a classic 3-9 or 2-10 for 300 and in, wanting the lower power more than the higher.

If you go up in weight to trade for more durability and abuse, I really like my Nightforce SHV 3-10 scopes. I think they are a little over 20oz though.
