18 year license ban. Finally more than a little slap on the wrist.

I've read other states can reciprocate that suspension but rarely ever do. Does anyone know why states don't?

You’d be surprised the amount of people that don’t know the residency laws and don’t really care to learn them. I ran into a guy at work one day that applies as a resident in a neighboring state because he owns 40 acres of vacant land there.

Texas does reciprocate a license revoked
Hawaii is the only state that I know of that doesn’t.
Federal GW should file a Lacey act violation on his ass , if he transported any of the animal parts across state lines

If the Wyoming fish and game wanted to do it right, this guy would earn his residency rooming with a big dude named bubba.

I'm surprised at the severity of the punishment based on other game violations in the news.
I think the probable wanton waste and the 2021 bull where the license was purchased after killing the elk is what caused the fine, jail and hunting suspension. Influencer photos never help your defense.
Illegally obtaining a resident license wouldn't result in jail time unless your attorney was drunk at the trial.

Poor guy should’ve quickly started a YouTube channel and Instagram account detailing his hunting adventures. Would’ve got off with a slap on the wrist. Then he could’ve at least had a few hundred other douche bag influencers commenting how “great of a guy” was and proclaiming his innocence.

Iowa is super strict on issuing residency for hunting/fishing. If you have an out of state license, then you have to apply for residency before they will sell you a resident tag/license. Wife just had to do this as she once registered an ohv as non resident (we were at the time) and we have been a resident for 5 years. I had to wait a year when we moved since I had entered the CO draw as a resident (didn’t draw), but couldn’t hunt iowa that year as a resident. Had to submit more paperwork than I did for transferring a drivers license.

According to the timestamps, they guy sure put some serious time into trophy photos. He takes his first grip and grin and then, almost an hour later, he's still taking selfies.

He's on the phone to his buddy getting a license.
How does a friend buy a resident hunting license for someone else? Wyoming might want to tighten things up a bit.

As of 2025 all 50 states participate in the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact but I’ve never seen a list of which states actually follow up on a conviction in another state.

Can’t speak to other states but this is very common in CO. Hunter lives in CO, but family or friends live in WY, and they claim the family’s address to hold in state residency for tax and tag purposes. Either that or they buy a little cabin in WY and claim it as primary residence.
