Either a .280 Remington or the .280 AI would be a good option IMO. Equipped with an optic that has a similar 9not too busy) BDC reticle as pictured you would be golden.

What Megalondon hasn't mentioned is that the hash mark moa value is dependent on the magnification setting (for 2nd focal plane scopes). That's not a problem, just something you need to recognize. The scope mfgs usually publish the moa values for the highest magnification setting. Once you determine muzzle velocity and look up your bullet ballistic coefficient, any of the available ballistic programs will give good data on bullet drop for various distances. Match them up and verify at the range and you are good to go.

Keep in mind that you will normally need to be at max magnification to use the hashes. A scope with too high a max can be problematic due to the reduced field of view. For the ranges you are considering I would not go over 9 or 10 pwr max and a max of 8 (like a 2x8) would be fine.

I was also looking for a rifle caliber this year to do the same and settled with the 257 Weatherby shooting 100 grain ttsx. Zeroed for 300, worked great for me this year as my deer gun.

257 roy with 100gr pills. A bit of bloodshot to be expected, but don't expect to miss. There's no flatter shooter for your mission. I killed my roosie elk at 400 using that same combo and it bang flopped in it's tracks.
that would be my choice too... for something more boring, a 270 will fill the niche as well, but the 257wby is the perfect cartridge for mpbr sighting
