Well I’m not going to be able to scout anymore before the hunt so I’m going to post up some pictures of the Rams I have found. I would like to get some thoughts from those of you who have measured some sheep before. It’s pretty easy for me to tell the difference between the 150s and 180s but the big Rams are super hard for me to tell what Im looking at.

Score isn’t really that important but I would like to have a better idea what I’m looking at when I see one.

Heres a few pics of the area I will be hunting. Another question I could use help with is whats the best way to melt snow for water? It takes a ton of fuel so if someone has a system that doesnt require the stove I am all ears. I plan to mess around with some trash bags to see how they would work. Man, that country is great. Kind of like the sangres -- big drops into a valley floor. Love it.

I hadn't seen #4 yet when I posted last. It's a close choice for me on 1 and 4.

I gotta be honest, I am an equal opportunity guy and either 1 of the 4 can ride along in my pack. I would have no objections at all. I just can't wait for you to get out there and share your story with us!

Be sure to get current with your Wild Sheep and Ovis memberships. I'd hate for you to get a great ram and not be eligible for an award. Happened to a friend of mine.

Heres my solution for melting snow without using fuel. Its basically a black game bag shaped like a funnel with a hole in the bottom. Im getting about a cup an hour in the shade on the porch. Hopefully it will do even better in direct sun. 298991E0-4497-474A-A0F9-C8B7C991E980.jpeg

Can you explain this comment a little more. I have never been on a sheep hunt and not sure what you mean.

I have the links to the two organizations for you. I am not an award guy but sheep are special and different. I've never scored my whitetails and have a couple that would probably make B&C. It's not really my thing.

When it comes to sheep though, Reno is a blast for WSF and it would be cool for you to get an award/get kicked out of the >1 Club. With all they've done to help put sheep on the mountain and you drawing a tag, it would be good for you to return the favor and join their great organization.

Just now reading this and I'm hooked. Good luck to the OP and please keep us informed.

BTW, I to believe you should get your ram mounted if you are lucky enough to get one. I really think you would regret it in the long run. After seeing those wall pedestal mounts, that is what I will do if I'm lucky enough to get a Dall when I go. They are absolutely gorgeous.

Couple updates...I will probably not join WSF. I dont have any interest in awards or banquets. I have helped and will continue to help put sheep on the mountain with hands on projects so that is the role I will continue to play.

I talked to my taxidermist and he said bighorn capes can fetch a pretty good price. My plan is to sell the full body cape and use that money to go to alaska with my dad or just stick it in my kid’s college fund. It seems like the most practical thing to do.

Its less than 2 weeks away. Ive been shooting my bow better than ever so I will be committing 100% to archery. It feels like everything will fall into place as long as Im patient for the right situation.
