NL Pure dislikes

Yes, Swaro just sent me 2 replacement covers. I tore one and now have a spare. They are replaceable.

Absolutely love my 12s. And the covers pop off and go in a drawer immediately. Not sure when I would ever use them since they live in the ADG kit.

The covers are not permanently attached, at all. It's the same cover design they've been using on the EL and EL Range since 2015. Pops out and can be replaced with a gap insert that's in a white box under a manual that probably wasn't read.

Sorry to see how this thread has been hijacked away from NL Pure dislikes.

OK - the objective lens covers are hinge-attached to the front of the barrel, but can be removed - So, what!!! They have a history of being a flimsy and weak attachment that tears off too easily during field use. If folks are generally removing them and replacing with a spacer - it proves my point - utterly useless.

Otherwise I stand by all of my personal preferences and things that don’t thrill me about the NL Pure, which was the theme of the thread.

I have no dislikes, they took some getting used to for sure… the view and ergos, I have the 12’s and am getting some 8x sooner than later. I started with the 12x because they will be most useful to me, but I could see folks not liking them for a primary bino, but I love them… the handheld inherent quirks of 12x are offset by the beauty of them on a tripod… they are next level glass, but certainly don’t blame those who don’t share my feelings, niche glass

I dislike that I don't have 8x to go with my 12s. I dislike they don't just forcefully witch me right onto game I guess. That was a real bummer.

I know several people with NLs who have had their covers since they first got the unit (over a year), I know several people with NLs who ripped the covers almost immediately, and this is true to a lesser extent for folks with Field Pro ELs and EL Range's. If your covers rip, you send Swaro an email and they send you new ones. If you use an enclosed harness, you probably don't want to use the covers, and don't have to, because they come with a gap insert and are user installable/replaceable.

My biggest gripe with the NL is that it made other binos that I was totally happy with feel completely inadequate. My second biggest gripe is that they don't accommodate a standard stud mount, but the RRS cinch makes up for it.

I can’t bring myself to pay that much for optics but I also don’t hunt deer very often in open country. For elk they aren’t needed. For deer in thick cover they aren’t needed. I do get the open country mule, coues or antelope game.

Outdoorsmans stud works great.

I concur with this assessment. I'm a firm believer that Swarovski pride is a real thing, and that anybody who is willing to be objective with testing can come to a conclusion that there are, in fact, OTHER options that you can recommend to people wanting to get into Alpha glass.

I got the UHD's last fall, the 10x50's. I had NEVER owned a pair of Vortex binos prior to that acquisition. But darn it, color me impressed. No, I don't get the status symbolism that comes from owning a Swaro or a Leica or a Zeiss, but I gained 30-40 minutes of glassing light in the morning and the evening coming from a pair of widely respected and often recommended mid-grade binos. It was enough of a difference that, on the first morning of in-field use, my buddy and I sat down and put our binos on the tripods well before sunrise. He was running some mid-grade binos comparable to my old ones, and I had my UHD's. He looked into his binos and immediately said "well, looks like we got about a half hour until glassing light. I'm gonna make breakfast." At that moment, I responded "What are you talking about? There's deer on that bench below us at about 1200 yards." He didn't believe me, and immediately tried to look for them and told me they weren't there. I passed him my tripod and binos, he stuck his eyes in them, and immediately responded with "Holy sh*t, you're not kidding."

I've compared the UHD's to EL's, NL's, Maven B2's, Zeiss Victory's, as well as the Leica Trinovid (a great bino at $1k, I would recommend them more if they were something you could get in a 10x/12x50). Call me a sellout, call me a fanboy, call me your Aunt Shirley, the UHD's hung with the best of them. The NL's are clear... ish. To my eyes, they cast a blue/green hue over the whole view that gives me a headache, same with the EL's. Makes seeing into shadows difficult for me. I won't argue that the NL isn't an engineering marvel with a widest-in-class field of view, but I also wouldn't spend $3k-$3300 on them. I just don't see the value for me, personally. But if a guy has the cash burning a hole in his pocket and wants to buy them, go ahead. I just don't see it.

But hey, I'm just some random guy on the internet...

They were deficient in comparison with:

CA control
FOV
Edge to edge (better than other vortex products)
Detail
Ergonomics
Weight (closeish)

But beyond that their pretty close lol.

As far as Vortex product goes, they're definitely the best thing they've put out yet.

The UHD to me was the biggest disappointment in optics I have experienced… I used them for a year, and the hype they were getting early was unwarranted IMO… I then got the kowas and they are what I was hoping the UHD’s were going to be… I would rather have the HD, at least they’re light

If you have never put them on a tripod then you can't compare them. The difference of hand held and on a tripod are night and day even with the same optic.

You absolutely can, been in the business nearly a decade now. I spend a couple hundred hours a year behind binos on a tripod, you don't need a tripod to pick apart the basics.

I'm glad you like your binoculars. I really like my truck, and no matter how many people I tell on the internet it's the best truck ever made, its not even though I think it.
