Nikon warranty stories

Has anyone recently dealt with Nikon for warranty issues on binoculars? I know that they terminated their no-fault policy several years ago. Do they provide repairs for accidental damage? Do they only help with manufacturer defects? I really like several binos in the Nikon lineup, but the warranty issue spooks me a little bit.

I had a repair last year for a ED 50mm Spotter.
I didn’t have a receipt or anything and they replaced it with a brand new scope! 2 week turn around!
No charge

I have an ED3 and have wondered what the warranty process would be like if needed.
