A few weeks ago, I bought a pair of 8x30 Monarch 7 binoculars from a member here. Unfortunately, they needed some repair but I suspected that would be the case based on the selling price. As soon as I received them, I took stock of what needed repair, filled out the on-line repair form, and then immediately sent them off to Nikon's service center in LA. I've had good luck with them in the past, so I figured it was worth a shot.

I expected they would not be covered by warranty, and I would decide whether to have them repaired once I saw the estimate.

Well, today I received this back from Nikon and I'm shocked! They are going to repair the binoculars at no cost! Of course, I'll reserve final judgement until I have them back in hand, but I'm pretty stoked. Nikon is a great company and I have always loved their optics. This is just one more reason to like them. I thought you all who own or are considering Nikon binoculars would want to know.

Great that it worked out for you, that makes for great customer service to say the least.
It is interesting to myself cause i have vowed to never purchase another Nikon item again after i purchased a pair of binos brand new from store, had them fail about 4 years later and when i sent them in with the original box, I was sent a bill to fix them for 75% of the cost of the original price. Needless to say, they aren't fixed

Yea, I've paid for repairs to Nikon binoculars and lenses before. Always got prompt, professional service, and made my repair decision based on the estimate. Sometimes it's worth repairing, sometimes not.

Nikon sport optics have a limited lifetime warranty, for the original purchaser. I am not, obviously the original purchaser. Their warranty also covers defects in materials or workmanship. To me, that doesn't include wear and tear, which is what these binoculars suffered from. So in my mind, they had no obligation to repair these for free.

Yup they came out with a warranty similar to others awhile ago. I dropped a spotting scope from about 8’ onto the garage floor. There was a little rattle inside. Emailed them, said hey it’s my fault, how can I get this repaired. They emailed back, no fault warranty covers all repairs. Pretty impressed.

Glad to hear-definitely a win 👍

I’ve never used any of their glass, but only bc I’m a creature of habit and stick with Leupold/Nightforce.
A few buddies like their stuff.

Just curious....did the seller disclose the damage/issue with the binos?

Either way you ended up on top it seems

Cool.

The seller did disclose the bins needed some love, but the issue was worse than I thought once I had them in hand, so off they went.

Coop, I haven't seen that. That's great to know.

Nikon glass has always suited my eyes very well. I like the warmer color balance and the lack of distortion. I also feel that Nikon's binoculars represent the top of the range in value at every price point. So to learn this about the warranty really encourages me to look at their products more closely in the future.

They have a lifetime warranty, but for the original purchaser ONLY.....it doesn't transfer to new buyer in case you decide to sell it. All of the Nikon's are like that.
Correct. That hasn't changed and that's why I was so surprised they were repairing mine at no cost. I am not the original owner and never claimed to be. So I had no reasonable expectation of warranty coverage.
