Nx8 or atacr really comes down to parralax, imo. Nx8 parralax and diopter are finicky. Especially when you turn them way up. Mirage and atmospherics can cause some distortion too. Setting diopter to be optimal on an nx8 takes some finesse. The atacr is less finicky, easier to really get things where they need to be. I think that’s where a lot of people run into saying either has crappy glass, both are so far beyond usable for a rifle scope it’s not even a consideration when buying one for me. The atacr and nx8 have a few more obvious differences but overall it comes down to eye box and how they handle parralax and mirage for me. Although overblown because at magnification that’s functional it’s not much of an issue. The atacr does them all better at a larger weight and size.

FWIW I still hunt with an nx8 and will continue to. I have the big atacr on my match gun.

I prefer the 4x nx8 with mil-c. If it is failing light, I push the button.... if it's good light, it works for me. My brain takes me to the middle of the middle automatically and the reticle is right there.

The 7-35 ATACR I have has a diopter that's just weird to me. It's not broken but I can't seem to spot the difference in clarity in the reticle for a huge range of diopter adjustment. Like a whole turn at least. Not quite sure what to make of that.

What magnification are you setting it at? I tend to prefer setting it at something that I can barely make out the subtensions at.

Miles to matches had a good podcast on setting diopter, I can’t remember which one though.

Around 12-14, as low as I can go really. It's not an issue I've run into with my Razor G3 diopter, seems to be that the ATACR one is just odd.

Figured I would circle back for the next guy looking. Ended up at Cabelas twice to look at NF, looked at the 2.5-20 and 4-32 NX8. Feel and look of the scope looked like quality. the 4-32 tunneled really bad and I couldn't get to fit my eye very well, the 2.5-20 was better. They were both FFP scopes, and the cross hairs were useless, until cranked up half way, which is possibly expected on FFP. However comparing both of those to a Zeiss V6, glass was subpar, was dark in a light up store. Didn't compare side by side but same day looked a Vortex venom and that glass was all of the NF. Bottom line here, I wanted to get the NF really bad, but I couldn't handle the $2k price tag for average glass and tunneling.

Ended up taking a runner on a Trijicon tenmile 4.5-30. Glad I did. Glass is clearer and brighter and is clear edge to edge, with no black ring like the 4-32 NF. To be fair the Trijicon does tunnel some at around 25 power, but again is expected. I got the MOA long range reticle, which Im not crazy about, but it is simple and uncluttered. Really like the scope. Havent shot yet, just mounted and played around with it outside.

FWIW, I just posted my 4-16x42 ATACR in the classifieds. I love it but I’m moving to something light for my hunting needs.
