Nightforce Reticle: MOAR vs MIL-R

I’m not being a jerk. You should be able to slot your impacts with a 6cm, even a Fieldcraft (the combo does move more than ideal). If you are not, there are issues. If you answer the questions, then a better view of what those issues are and how to address them becomes visible.
I didn’t interpret your response as being a jerk. I assumed you were trying to be helpful.

With that said, I’m not sure it’s relevant to the question I asked about which reticle folks prefer.

You are saying that the reticle doesn’t matter on vertical because you don’t need it- it does matter and it effects which reticle makes sense. You’ve spent as much time not answering the questions as it would take to answer them and then get a better answer/more correct information. That’s fine.

I’m really not trying to argue with you. You asked a lot of questions that don’t have quick answers. I don’t know know exactly what ranges, positions, and magnifications have been where I’ve struggled to precisely determine exact POI in the field. I’ve killed a load of deer, and I don’t keep notes of those things.

If you think one scope is better for holdovers and follow-up shots, I’d love to hear it. But you’ve really spent more time questioning me and making assumptions than anything.

Curious what you went with, have a 6.5 fc as well and a nxs 2.5x10x42 moar on the way due to some advise from a few excellent hunters.

I’m waiting on them to come back in stock for first responder discount, but have decided on the MIL-R reticle.

I’m eyeing a Trijicon for an upcoming 7mm prc build, so I’ll be mil from here on out.

My preference is MIL vs MOA when dialing and reading reticles...I'll go ahead and state that my preference is FFP over SFP, but I can live with SFP in a scope that maxes at 10x if I have to. That said, specifically in regard to the 2 mentioned reticles in the NXS 2.5-10x42, if I was purchasing right now, for the conditions I hunt, I'd go with the MOAR.

I used the MIL-R in the past and it was ok in the open but the subtensions were to thin when hunting wooded areas. That coupled with the hollow outer bars made it tough to pick up in busy backgrounds. I recently picked up an SHV 3-10 with the MOAR and was pleasantly surprised by it. The outer bars were filled in with no hollow sections and the subtensions on the inner plex seemed bolder. This made it much easier to use in wooded/busy backgrounds than my previous experience with the MIL-R. I also appreciate the fact that only the inner most crosshair on the SHV is illuminated vs the entire measured area of the NXS.

Hunting reticles are the downfall of many Nightforce scopes....it's most obvious to me in the 2.5-10x42 NXS reticles. Nightforce reticles are a sore spot for me and it irritates me most with the 2.5-10 NXS as it could really stand out with a well designed hunting reticle. If they'd put a Forceplex subtended reticle with a 2.5 or 3 mil opening per side with mil dots and 1/2 mil hashes, illuminating only the inner most 1/2 mil plex, they'd have a GREAT hunting reticle....even though it's SFP. I waive my rights to the design to NF, call it the Mil-Force and send me one.....

If you can convince them to build a reticle like that I'm in for a few(y) For now I can live with this, I hunt all types of stuff, mostly more open country when I'm deer/elk/antelope hunting in E. Oregon or Wyoming, but also chase blacktails in the dark and nasty forests of our coast. So far I can live with this - the MOAR reticle been OK, not ideal but can see it well enough to see what I'm aiming at and I know it holds zero so even more better:)
