That’s kind of a goofy comparison, though. Most guys in the 60s and 70s weren’t shooting long range, holding wind, or dialing dope. They were shooting deer at 100–200 yards with a duplex and calling it a day.I guess my question for all you FFP scope guys, how would you have been able to hunt in the 60's and 70's with a SFP crosshair with no illumination or hash marks and if you were lucky you had a 3x9 or you spent big money on a 4x16. The scopes we have now are a thousand times better than what we had back then. Not everybody drinks the same koolaid as the FFP guy's.
People have been shooting long range since the invention of black powder. The bison herds were decimated with 45/70 black powder cartridge rifles shooting long range. Black powder cartridge rifle competitions are shooting steel chickens at 500 yards or more..... With open tang sites. If you think people weren't shooting at 500, 600 yards or more with duplex scopes back in the 60's and 70's, you're foolish.. There just wasn't social media to talk about it.That’s kind of a goofy comparison, though. Most guys in the 60s and 70s weren’t shooting long range, holding wind, or dialing dope. Different era, different expectations, different skillsets. The fact that they did fine back then doesn’t mean those same setups make sense for guys who actually dial, hold, and shoot farther today. Comparing the two is apples to rocks. Both reticle designs work. It just depends on how you hunt and what you expect out of your setup
