Just received mine today and took it out this evening.
Initial take aways and first observations:
Scope caps are already better than the Tenebraex alternative, while not perfect they can be fitted with some black tape to make sure they don’t come off. I have a tendency even with Butler creeks losing the ocular covers. One less thing I gotta buy.
Illumination is improved from the previous NXS/NX8/ATACR line. This isn’t referring to the 1-8s as that illumination can be turned on high enough to be extremely daylight bright. The NX6 reticle illumination is good.
Looking at it on a scattered leaf broken tree/bush background I have little problems at 2x with the thick horizontal stadia. You can make out the middle easy enough IMO to be effective with it. Illumination on there is zero issue and more assuring. 2.5-3x it gets easier to view.
Didn’t have any issues with the zoom range at this point and doing the 12x work at range. I use 1” sticker dots and the centre dot is just covers these at 100m.
Personally didnt find a finicky nature to the parallax at this point but this was only sighting in and shooting a few groups with it. Mil reticle seemed true to the dials as I used it for sighting in and adjusted using the “measuring tape”.
Zero issues with the turret. The fieldset is slick and very easy to set and make fast adjustments on the bench. It’s not a mushy turret as some describe IMO. Maybe similar to NXS feel. I’d have to compare the scopes side by side along with an NXS if anyone is really curious just ask. Windage turret feels about as firm and positive as my ATACR 4-16x42.
At this point I wouldn’t rush out to sell your NXS compacts and that’s not saying it’s better, I think it’s a genuinely good scope and look to putting it though some paces on the trainer this coming while. Moving forward based off my gut feeling I’ll probably buy one of these over a new NXS at this point. Happy with my purchase. More time will tell but so far so good. Happy it finally came in.
