I am a little torn between two items for my next major gear purchase. Should I update my hunting rifle: currently Ruger M77MrkII .30-06 w/ old 3-9x40mm Redfield scope to a Tikka T3 Lite SS in 7mm Rem Mag w/ a vortex 4-12x40 or 44mm scope or buy a pair of Meopta Meostar HD 10x42 or demo Zeiss conquest HD 10x42 binos, currently I'm using some Burris signature select 8x42.

So what do you think, new rifle or new binos?

If you can't see them, you can't shoot them. Glass is my vote unless there are issues with the gun that you didn't disclose. Buy good glass, you will be happier in the long run.

Are you using the binos solely to wear? I'm a fan of 10x32 around the neck and think the 40mm+ is too bulky. As a side-note, I prefer 15x Kaibabs or Swaro SLC to the 50mm scopes understanding that I want to pair it with a big objective scope.

Id go with everyone else and upgrade my binos. Also i prefer the 42 objectives for the fov but everything is a tradeoff

OK so it will probably be new glass, of the two binos witch one would be better overall and long term? Also how does the average guy buy glass when the only comparison will probably be done in store?

Look at an eye chart in the store. Most stores will let you go outside with an employee to try optics. If your store does not allow this then go to a different store. fatrascal.
