Newfoundland, better early or late?

I did six moose hunts all successful on the rock I can assure you all the last week or second week of October I would not book, if you go past the rut they wont respond to calls and I personally think it is harder hunting than pre rut do to them being rutted out and not very active. As my guide use to say they are all F----- out. I use to like as close to October first as possible weather does dictate. I have already tagged out the last day of the season last minute of light by pure luck. My preferance is last week of September into about October 4th.

I hunted with Ironbound in 2018 with outstanding results… the guides whom I trust, told me if I come again and am after a true trophy bull, either book the first week of the season or wait to the last few weeks when it’s cold and the bulls are ruining in bachelor groups. Later hunting is tougher but the bulls are on their feet trying to replenish from the rut.

Unfortunately his prices have almost tripled since I went and it’s out of my price range now… doubtful I’ll ever go again

I was with them the first week of rifle, first hunters in that camp this year. Worked hard to find cows. The guide was good, but I was upset that as soon as I broke down and shot what I thought was a cow because it looked bleak, he immediately told the other hunter they'd go to a spike camp location. Add that to the rest of the train wreck that was IB. I really can not afford these either. I sold my outfitter tent and all the gear that goes with it to put the deposit on the next(and last) try.

That stinks… I killed my bull on the next to last day, which turned out to be the last day due to weather… it’s hunting and it doesn’t always work out. If I can afford to go back, I’m going back with Ironbound, no questions asked, and I’m requesting Rob as my guide, and hoping I can lure Vern out of his “retirement” for the week.

What r the fish? I’m going in 27 and asked the owner where we r going, if there was anything to fish for while we r there if tagged out early, She said nothing was open

We had time to kill when we got back Channel-Port aux Basques and we saw an ad in a local paper or magazine about fishing charters… we booked a quick trip with Port aux Basques Marine Excursions Inc. and he took us out for a cod fishing trip… had our limit in about 45 minutes, caught an Atlantic Wolffish too… nasty bugger… he filleted the fish for us too, super nice guy, was less than 100 bucks per person and well worth it, he told us about the local history and whatnot too.
