Just wondering if anyone has been to Newfoundland and bow hunted moose. I am looking to go and I would prefer to bow hunt but am not sure if i should try it the first time going. No problem rifle hunting but Id really like to get a bull with my recurve.

The outfitter i went with had 4 bowhunters in camp the 2 weeks before I was there. They all killed nice bulls on day 1 or 2. He only hunts 2 hunters per week in this trophy camp to keep pressure down. I think that's a big help. He books alot of hunts through bowhunting safari consultants. Dean macdonals DADG Macdonald Outfitting. Good people there

Big archery hunter here. My first trip I had 3 other archery hunters in camp. Unfortunately, it was a bad weather week with a tropical storm crossing NL. Hunting was tough with fog, wind and rain every day. At the last second I left the bow behind and took a rifle. I was the only one that harvested in our camp. The other hunters saw moose almost every day and had opportunities but couldn't seal the deal with all the other challenges. Despite the tough conditions, everyone had a great time.

I think I was there 7 times and had bow hunters on a few of the hunts never saw anyone get a shot with a bow. Two hunters gave up and used the rifle on the last time I was there this past October guy hunted with a recurve only all week and needed to be within 35 yds, he did have a nice bull at 50 yds but said it was too far. Personally I wouldn't do it as I dont have that kinda money to spend.

I have killed a moose with bow and arrow in Newfoundland, it is very do able. I would stay away from the drive in areas, spend the money and get dropped in. I suggest hunting the second week of October, I am doing my second archery in NL this year, same outfit I went with the first time. Grandlake Adventure .

Thanks. Just wondering how close the shot was? I’d be using a longbow

Well I had bull at 2’ but couldn’t get a shot because of brush, he didn’t like something and busted in a clear cut and he stopped at 42 yards and I double lunged him and he didn’t go far.
