What are the major benefits of the tikka over the ruger? Tikka cost is double after chop and thread of barrel and cut down the stock. Ruger ranch is plug and play.

Besides price the Tikka is better in almost every aspect. With that said my buddy has a Ruger that shoots very well. The action, stock, and trigger feel like garbage but it’s definitely a shooter.

I have never owned a Tikka in .223, but have read multiple threads regarding them not feeding well. Is this going to be a problem for my 6 y.o? Last thing I want is a gun that doesn't feed reliably for him.

Very unlikely that you will have an issue. Use 4 round flush mags.

My 7 year old didn't have any issues with factory 4 round mags at all. He did however, make the choice to go back to solely shooting his semi auto 10/22 in 17 Mach 2 after trying out a bolt gun for a couple weeks. We'll try again in a year or so.

Thanks guys, I got a compact t3x on the way. I think I am going to let him rattle can it how he wants to. I have 3-4 take off stocks from previous builds that he can practice on.

Tikka compact stock was still too large for my son, I used the chop saw with a fine blade and cut about 3" off of it, added vertical grip and cheek riser, and a homemade recoil pad.

I have another bare carbon rokstok coming for this that I'm gonna cut down and set up for him with room to grow using spacers.
