New Weatherby Cartridge

It’s a cool design. I hope it does well. I’ve already got three 1:7 25 cal rifles so I don’t have a use for it myself.

I hope they don’t put a really short free bore on this one like the 6.5 RPM, that would be a shame. They have those 107HBC seated super deep so I am worried they didn’t give it the 0.200”+ free bore it deserves.

I think Weatherby leaked the info before Barnes released anything. There are a few online retailers that show the bullet as well but are out of stock.
Screw the 25 RPM what black magic did Barnes do to create a 117 with 0.53 G1? I think its worth building a whole rifle around. A 257 bee pushing that at 3300-3400 seems really fun.

Speeds don’t look significantly different than what I am getting from a 25-6.5 prc. The rpm has a touch more case capacity, so it should be faster, but doesn’t look like the current offerings are faster. They note that rl26 is a good powder choice. If they have to use that for speed they will be slow like the 7 prc.

The 25 prc might fit in a short action. Mine is on a tikka, with the long action bolt stop, but it doesn’t need all that length.

Maybe I’m too simplistic but the only thing I see is a fast twist 25-06 ackley with no fire forming. Seems like a good thing to me.
The factory ammo is pretty conservative. A handloader can really wring this thing out.
Agreed. Kicker will be brass - since Peterson makes the other RPM brass hopefully they offer this too.

I was already thinking about it. I wonder how simple it would be to take a 6.5 and run it through a 25 die and trim. I would think it would be pretty plug and play that way.

I doubt that will work without having to neck turn and anneal since the shoulder is further back by a decent amount.

I would suspect Peterson will offer it overtime.

I haven’t seen too much terminal performance results on the Hammer forums of the 107HBC, but that’s the bullet that really interests me.

3150 with a 117gr bullet. I do that with a 22” 25 Creedmoor. Depending on the temperature I shoot a Berger 115gr Hunter at 3120-3148 fps

Do you think your velocity results and hand loading are tied together? I see the facrory 112gr super romance states 3150, presumably a 26" test barrel. I know I can push our 6.5creeds really close to the one prc we have; the same goes for my surprise with velocity out of the 6creed and hand loads. I can't think of any hunt I would do that what you are showing would be inadequate.

I am surprised that nobody has brought up the platforms that the 25rpm is offered in. I wouldn't want a 307 or MarkV action. If this came out as a Tikka, Vanguard, American offering I think I'd be reading posts here of, "ordered mine last night!".

If (perceived) better brass, dies, and a reamer were available, I'd maybe track down a barrel blank.

Definitely. Diehard boomers living in the past scared of adaptation and set on being left in the dust
Well there are worse ways of going about it, I just personally think there are better tradeoffs.

The recoil will be on the upper end, maybe a bit above, what most shooters shoot well in a light rifle(i used 8lbs). velocity and energy mean nothing if they dont hit the target.

On the flipside, velocity + high BC means less drop and drift than others which should mean more room for error

For those that know, my mind tells me longer bullets are more susceptible to aero jump than others due to more surface area touching the air and faster twist required to stabilize. Does that track?

I know its virtually non-existent at hunting ranges but bench racing..........
