New Weatherby Cartridge

“we’re running a 133 grain Berger at 3k out of a 24” barrel”. Claiming that is a conservative factory load and handloaders can squeeze more out of it with a case capacity of 72.5.
I'll be curious to see the handloading results. I was hitting 2900 fps with 138 A-tips in a 24" 25 creed with 42gn of powder. No traditional signs off pressure, but obviously probably a little hot.

It’s a smart move. The only SAAMI fast twist 25 is the Creedmoor, but tons of hunters think anything Creedmoor is gay. All the other bore diameters are saturated, but a fast twist 25 is a wide open market with the new bullets out there. Hammer bullets are already loaded in Weatherby factory ammo, so if this is indeed a 25 RPM, I would anticipate some LOOONG hammers being loaded for it, and those require up to a 1/7.5 twist, such as the 127HHT. Hornady has already said they won’t do a 25PRC, so again, the market is ripe for a SAAMI high speed fast-twist 25.

If they really want the cartridge to be a success, they need to allow other rifle companies to chamber it.

We shall see.
Or if Adg or Peterson makes brass for it even without Weatherby support they’d kill it

Yep will never sell weatherby cartridges are a thing of the past, the rifles even more so
Their current marketing campaign is comparing it to the 25 creed and how it's 200 fps faster in similar bullet weights. Not wrong, and that's great, but you're going to get a lot more recoil, long action vs short action and ammo is $99/box for Bergers. I can find ammo online for 25 creed for $32/box for ELDMs. Is the juice worth the squeeze? I don't think so one bit.

Exactly

25 designed for long bullets @3000+ = cool

one place to get ammo = extremely not cool

The recoil tradeoff by itself compared to others IMO is not worth it. 25%+ more powder for 7% more velocity compared to 25CM

In one of the videos they said "entry-level" about the 307..........somebody needs to tell them that $750 for just the action is not entry-level.

The thing is you could make the same or similar argument for every weatherby cartridge for decades but weatherby still exists. Shooting weatherby cartridges as a factory ammo shooter is largely a sucker's choice. Handloading seems more prevalent than ever though and for someone looking at 270 or 6.5 PRC type cartridge that's going to handload, this one will offer a slight edge in performance on paper.

You're absolutely right!
There are still a lot of dudes out there that just want to chase crazy speed and that's all they care about.
"wallop"

Attractive alternative! It will eat a 6.5 PRC’s lunch all day every day and twice on Sunday.
Im curious how you arrive at that. with similar bullet weight, PRC has more velocity, a bit lower BC.........likely comes to mostly a wash.......especially @ reasonable hunting distances.

It's pretty simple. The 13X class 257s have higher BCs than 140ish 6.5s and can be pushed faster from the same case. Higher BC, Faster velocity = better ballistics. Sure, you can make up the velocity with a lighter 6.5 pill but you go from a slight BC disadvantage to a more significant one doing so. And the RPM case is bigger than the PRC case so loaded to similar pressures = faster.

Does any of it make a significant different for avg hunter applications, no. But we're bench racing cartridges here.
