New vs Old Sitka Core lightweight ( is it worth the upgrade )

The guys at Gannett Ridge did some non-scientific tests by exercising for multiple days wearing the same shirt without washing it, and they were impressed by the lack of odor.

Yes, the Polygiene alone in the new version is worth the upgrade. I wore two of these shirts for 17 days in the Yukon recently, and the odor thing flat out works. These new core base layers will make merino wool obsolete for me. Light, dries fast and doesn't smell...perfect!

Kotaman , would you were these lightweight core long bottoms under pants like ascents when hot like 70 's to wick or would be to hot ?

I think I'd be too hot hiking, but I run hot when hiking. If I was hiking in say 40 degree temps, I go light base with Ascents, MOuntains or Timberlines. Anything warmer than that and I don't want a base layer from the waist down.

I wore the lightweight base layer under my rain pants the two days it rained and was warm, but comfortable hiking.

I never tried any of the old Sitka core stuff, but the new pieces impress me. I've worn a SS shirt for 6 days straight without any funk growing on it Good stuff, and it's comfortable!

would you say size to fit or go up one size ?

I just got a new core mid weight. I think if your like an Athletic fit they run true to size. If you want it more relaxed you might consider one size up.
For a comparison of the old core stuff I always had to size one up for me...

I had the opposite experience with a new long sleeve core. The shirt was smelling after day 1 of a 5 day mountain hunt. I ended up having to wash it in a stream several times to try and get the stench out. I still really liked the shirt, however I'll probably stick with merino on longer hunts.

After wearing a few of these core pieces from Sitka, i gotta say I'm impressed. The long sleeve lightweight core is my new favorite woods t-shirt. I've used it for firewood cutting, belly shooting (prone) in all kinds of conditions, and wore it for most of three days on a recent antelope hunt (including sleeping in it). With temps swinging from 45 to 90, I would layer with the light long sleeve or mid-weight zip, plus a Kelvin or Cloudburst jacket in the morning to beat the dew and wind. As soon as the sun broke, the long sleeves kept me from burning up; not a lot of trees in eastern WY! I gave up trying to mask scent from animals who make their living with their noses long ago. This shirt had some scent on it, but it didn't smell nearly as bad as me after three days! Plus it cleaned right up without a fuss once I got home. Some fabrics never go neutral again once you funk them up!

I just got back from 2 weeks in AK. I wore one of the new core lightweights for 7 days. Very impressed. I probably could have tested further but I didn't want to get too crazy as I had plenty of extras.

Just got a new core midweight and have worked out in it 4 times and got it soaking wet with sweat. No funk yet.

How many of you have tried the Merino? How would you say it stacks up to the new core stuff? Was never impressed with the core stuff before.

I have been using the Core Merino exclusively this year. IMO you can't really compare the Merino to the regular Core stuff as they are two completely different materials. As for cut and fit they are very similar. The merino in my opinion is awesome! It is more of the a mid weight top. I just got back from Alaska and the merino top was one of my #1 pieces 8 days in one shirt and absolutely no stink
