TWO very important points to remember when shopping for glass for yourself ..... 1) each and every pair of eyes sees a different picture through the same lense 2) for whatever reasons you want to chose, once a person has made up their mind to buy, use or recommend a certain brand the subjective opinion will vary from report to report - sometimes it's a lot of work (and/or expense) but a person is best served to shop and decide optics for themselves if possible, IMO of course

case in point: I will not use another brand other than Leupold for scopes but I'm not even close to sold on their binoculars, Leica gets the nod from me for them - I don't use spotters any more, 15x binocs now, I've been pretty impressed in the value/quality of Kaibabs and Meopta rules for $$ spent IMO (ALL subjective hearsay in the big picture)

Dot I meant sense the mag range is smaller than previous versions will it result in better optical quality. Normally less range means less compromises and better performance.

Old 85 20-60
New 85 27-60

Old 65 15-48
New 65 22-48

That's quite a reduction unless they are going to claim them as WA's

According to specs online the new razors have a wider FOV than the 30-60 S2s.. certainly grabbed my attention. I wonder if they'll have milling eyepeices for these as well.

Vortex from what I've heard, equivalent to the Viper HD.

Vortex is not making the Krotos Spotter. However, the possibility is there that it is made in the same factory and sold to Cabela`s .

I too have the meopta S2 and love it. It is a little on the heavy side and yes the eyecup adjustment is doesn't take much pressure to turn. it does lock though unless it maybe got stripped out from turning to hard? I noticed on mine that it will slip if I turn too hard past the stop. The razor should have a little wider FOV because the objective is a little larger. 82 vs 85. Has anyone ever had a problem with Meopta's warranty? They have been great to deal with for me and while Meopta in the Czech republic has a limited warranty, Meopta USA has a unlimited transferable one if I remember correctly. Same as Vortex. I compared a lot of spotters, and the S2 held its own to all of them out there IMO. The Swaro X series wasn't out yet though which I've heard is better, and for the cost it better be. The big Kowa is very nice, especially with their updated WA eyepiece which uses fluorite glass instead of a blend. This makes the glass purer, but more fragile. That, coupled with the lack of any body armor, made me pass on it for a hunting scope. Very interested on how the new razor will stack up.

I've thought about putting a drop of clear nail polish on the threads and then setting to my desired location and letting cure overnight. I think it would help keep it in place, but still be easy to adjust if needed. Only complaint on that spotter for me is how easy the diopter adjustment turns..

This is a common misconception choovhntr. FOV is not dependent on objective size, but rather eyepiece design. Many smaller objective optics have wider FOVs than their larger objective brothers.

Good to know. Makes sense though now that i think about it. I guess i was just thinking that if the eyepiece designs were the same, the larger objective would offer a wider FOV.

I would also like to get some reviews of the new vortex scopes specifically the 65. I have a chance to pick one up for rather cheap brand new. My father in law is good friends with the dealer rep for vortex so I feel like for what it will cost me it is worth getting. The problem is finding one, apparently they are going out of stock just as fast as they come in so he said that he may lend me one of his samples until he can find one for me, he is a really nice guy. So I think that I will have me one in hand within a week or two but we will see if it is the one I get for good or not.

I picked my 65 up a few weeks ago now. Its a better built scope than the old Razors IMO I like the heli focus and rubber armor coating! I don't think you can go wrong at that price point!

I like mine so far. I wished they wouldn't have increased the overall weight and kept it the same at 49, but it's now 56. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. I do like the rubber coating on them and was unsure about the heli focus at first - but sure do like it a lot now. The wide FOV helps to take away from the "tunnel" effect as well.

If any are interested I have one Angled 65 left here! Yes, they say they are 56.oz but I've weighed them here on our postal scale & they are 54.oz -- Hardly noticeable at all from the original scopes. Definitely very well built & nice to the touch.

Elknut- do you think they started listing weights with the lense caps? I know the old one's weight was listed without lense caps.

Vortex is sending Rokslide writer Jared Bloomgren the big 85 to review. should at least have a thread up in the next few weeks...

Robby- any word on the review?

Bowhunter50, that's a good question! I'm not sure? I do know the new models are pretty sweet! I will say the glass between the original & new is very close in comparison!

I'm really glad to hear you say that, because I bought the outgoing model just before the new model was released!

I've been using the new 85mm spotter against that of the older brother 85mm spotter. There are some obvious improvements that do make it a better spotter but don't be disappointed if you just bought the older version.

Full review on the new 85mm coming soon.

I have an 85mm in the mail. Haven't looked through one, yet, but all reports are overwhelmingly positive. I'll be able to compare it to a Swaro non-HD in November.
