Vortex is coming out with a New 1500 yard Rangefinder! Sweet!!! It is lightning fast in readouts & these units have 2 clicks to activate instead of 3. It also has all the other great features the 1000 has such as Incline Decline Compensation throughout all distances! They should be available end of Jan or early Feb. I have mine coming! (grin)

I'm still hoping they come out with a Razor or Viper level bino with RF built-in.

I don't believe it has any ballistic calcs to it, not to my knowledge anyway!

We use 5 1000's at present with no issues, took a day or two to get used to the 3 clicks but it's automatic after that, pretty simple & very accurate. I do look forward to the 1500 though! (grin)

The MAP Price is 479.00 -- We will have an "Introductory" offer for the first two weeks once they arrive to us! Stay tuned, I have a feeling these ones won't last long! (grin)

Not sure as I don't have one at present? But have had the Ranger 1000 for 3 years with no issues, (we use 5 of them total) plus I'm not that good of a shot where a couple yards would make a difference with my bow or rifle. (grin)

I will say it came in quite handy this year. I had a bull coming up a very steep incline to me, as he hit some cover 150 yards out I ranged a small tree in the brush at 80 yards & closer to me was a rotten stump which I figured to be 45 yards give or take. Well when I ranged it, it read 31 yards, I hit it again & again & each time it read 31 yards but I was doubting it!? Yes it was very steep below me but still there were doubts, I stayed with what it ranged & as the bull came up & pass the stump I estimated he had to be 25 yards now as he was in front of the stump. The bull came up & was struggling to see where his next foot hold would be as he tried climbing up tour calls, he hesitated for just a 2nd & I let the arrow fly, perfect hit through both lungs. Man was I glad I didn't second guess the distance & stray away from what the rangefinder read! (grin) The angle comp really came in handy there! I was thankful the unit has a working Angle Comp to 10-11 yards & all the way to full range ability. Here's a clip of the shot!

You can see how steep the angle is I'm aiming at, even at 25 yards you still can't see any rack! It was that steep!

Don't get me wrong Elk. I have a Ranger and for my needs it works. It would be hands down the best rangefinder on the market if they could get it to even +/- 1 yard and be able to consistently range past 700 yards. Just my experience. I don't shoot 700, but knowing how far something is for moving purposes can help.

and +/- 3 is huge for my bow. if it is telling me 42 when in fact it is 45 that is me hitting low as I would aim for 40 and it would be 45. not talking 12", but for sure enough to go from a center or high lung to barely hitting the bottom.

looking forward to seeing the specs.

Heck, no problem bud! I understand your thoughts but why do you feel it's 3 yards off? How are you deciding that? As I mentioned we have 5, I don't hear anyone saying anything about being that far off? We've taken many Deer & Elk with ours & zero complaints!

This year Clayton of the ElkNut Crew was on a bull before light, aprox 30 minutes. He had called to locate & a bull was within 150 yards. He moved in silently after locating with good wind & waited nervously praying for a bit of light. After his wait the bull finally appeared just enough he could see it, he ranged it at 40 yards. Funny thing was, he was in dark timber & when he hit the rangefinder for a read he couldn't see it well so he pointed the rangefinder to the sky twice & got the 40 yard read both times where light was brighter, he leveled his bow & put the arrow through both lungs, bull down! Not at anytime have we had a single issue with our rangefinders deceiving us with a wrong yardage. Not sure what to tell you?

I don't want to side track this thread but many here tried the ranger and move to more capable range finders in speed and accuracy . At the msrp the 1500 could really find the sweet spot if it will actually range an animal at over 1000

A Little late to the party is Vortex. Sig has already released theirs and the reviews so far are pretty good. Anything vortex puts out has to be better than that POS they have right now. Display is terrible if looking anywhere near the sun, and the optics leave little to be desired.

I tested the sig to 1600 (farthest we could range) and I was very impressed for the money.

Elk- in their specs it is listed at +/- 3 yards. Shooting in my backyard ranging a black target, a brown 3d deer and a homemade white rug FP target I will get 2-3 yard differences especially if the lighting and shading from the tree is in effect. Again, not saying it is a bad rangefinder, but truly a small tweaks and I don't think there could be a better all around rangefinder on the market.

Ahh, I see. I'll have to test that, I generally click, get the reading & go with it. It must be OK as I haven't had issues hunting or practicing. Have you tried other rangefinders to see if there's a difference? Thanks!

My bow was set to that rangefinder using a black box target. When I started shooting the lightbrown 3d, I was off. When my cousin came over and brought his new Nikon it was 1-2 yrds off his reading. I have not been able to test this in real world situations. When we are hunting and randomly range trees, bushes etc at incline, decline, and far distances they are both extremely accurate.

This could have been a fluke from that day with the sun, shadow effects? I have no idea. I guess if the only thing I ever hunted was brown it would be ok. But bear and pigs usually come in black.

I really don't see a point to this rangefinder if it doesn't have ballistic calcs or temp/bara adjustments built in. Companies should be pushing boundaries with each release not just upping the yardage 500 yards. The only real contenders in the ranging handheld market to me are the Leica 1600B and the G7 BR2. The BR2 is so ridiculously over priced that as soon as Leica, Bushnell or another company adds the ability to do custom curves no one will buy it. My cousin has the BR2 and we both use it and love it but jeez, $1800 is nuts. All Leica has to do to their Rangmaster is make a removable chip for custom curves like the Geovid already has and it will outsell anything out there and be half the price of the G7. I am hoping SHOT has some new rangefinders introduced. Vortex is just killing me lately, I feel they have gotten complacent.

It'll happen, and when it does you'll see the same technology in a bushnell, nikon, Leopold, etc.

They're a branding company much like the companies listed above. They don't have a real r and d department, they just brand products manufactured by the Asians. Look at the models and do similar price point comparisons across brands and the similarities are very appearant. Kyocera makes a lot of optics for a lot of branding companies.
