I'll interject on a lot of the hate and trash talk that has occurred, as I'm getting tired of the single side- it may appear out of place, unwarranted - IMO its understandable, jury is still out if its deserved.
It doesn't stem from "competition shooters obsessed with Tricer" or just hating on a new product because it isnt made by MDT. It's not the new RP bipod or the social media ad campaign run by Tricer.
A lot of talk and hate boiled up because of Tricer's X1 and X2 competition focused tripods, specifically the locking apex mechanism (The trash talk has seemed to have moved on from there.) That mechanism is deployed into place to keep the tripod legs from collapsing inward. A big deal in PRS or NRL when you are shooting with a tripod rear support.
The first tripod to have such a mechanism is the Dauntless by T3 optics/PRSTF, it was released a couple of years ago. The guy that designed and sells that tripod it is a PRS/NRL competitor and a great ambassador of the sport, he is a friend of mine. His tripods are OEM'd by leofoto, and include his designed locking apex mechanism, making the tripod the "Dauntless by T3 Optics"
He is well known in the competition side of PRS/NRL shooting, travels and shoots a lot. He runs his business well, is very generous to competitors, is often a sponsor, donates a lot of gear and prizes to every match he attends and even those he doesnt. Goes as far as loaning out personal gear to others for matches he is not attending. He works full time - designs products and runs his store in his spare time out his garage.
So when a large company like
@Tricer enters the competitive shooting market with their X1/X2 tripods and incorporates a mechanism that appears to be a blatant ripoff/copy of a well known, very well liked competitor, who designed and developed it, it doesn't sit right with a lot of people, myself included.
I cant speak to the quality of their new bipod or to trash talk on the internet. Brushing it off as "haters" or "obsessed competition shooters" is a bit simplistic, but I also believe the trash talk on the internet has cast too wide of a net.
Tricer entered a competitive shooting market with what appears to be a blatant copy of someone else's idea, if it is so, they deserve to get called out for it.
