Savage Rascal with irons is what I am currently using for squirrels.

My crew uses Ruger 10/22 some with open sights, some red dots. I’m wanting to get a Mark IV setup with a dot and can for “tree ninjas of opportunity” during other Fall seasons, too.

Whats the details in this gun?
Ruger 22 Charger, SB Tactical brace, Vortex Venom red dot, DA Mask can, and a Flatline sling. Had to add a little QD adapter to the charger’s front swivel stud to use this sling.

I like it,better than the takedown 10/22.
I will have to make sure it’s legal, any issues with the folder?

Don’t rule out a cheap pellet gun. Brother gave a Beeman to my kids (we’re third owner). Loud guns stir things up. Pellet gun is quiet and deadly inside of 35 yds; even young kids do great on their own.

Otherwise we’ll use a Marlin 22LR bolt with CCI subs (1050 fps I believe). The standard 10/22s aren’t very accurate and have a shit factory trigger.

Know your trees and what squirrels eat, or sit on a deer feeder with corn midday. Check out calling using a couple quarters to stir up interest.

Good luck!

How do y'all hunt squirrels in the deciduous eastern forest without dogs? Just like timber creep around real slowly? Sit and wait and listen?
Today it was raining so just slowly worked my way through the woods looking for movement. I killed these today with my Savage 17 hmr. These are the first black squirrels I've ever killed.

CZ457 for me. Best shooting rimfire I've ever had. I shoot mine a lot at varying ranges so I have an Arken SH4 on it. Pretty heavy but to sit and let the squirrels come to you, it's perfect.

My squirrel rig is a 30 year old 10/22 with a VX Freedom 2-7x33 on top and a Silencerco Warlock 2 on the end; shooting CCI hollow point subsonics.

I’ve used CCI Standard Velocity (which are also subsonic) in the past, but have surprisingly better luck with the hollow points.

I figured out why I sucked at squirrel hunting: I was trying to hunt the public!

Got access to some private, and because we are getting older and like to do weird stuff, a buddy and I used his muzzleloaders to bag a few. Was the first time I'd ever shot a muzzleloader. It was a blast. We used a .54 cal and .50 cal, and they are certainly overkill. Now we are both shopping for .32 cal muzzys.

I’ve got an old CVA .32 cal I hunted squirrels with as a kid, it’s a challenge but lots of fun. Those small caliber muzzleloaders can be surprisingly accurate.

Growing up or was a 1950s era Western Field bolt action. 410 full choke that is still a light fast and deadly squirrel gun. I also liked the little Glenfield .22 bolt action my dad bought when I turned 6 years old. It's still going but with a new fixed 4x32 scope and a friend has been using it to teach his boys how to shoot

Being older, this is this best fun ever... TC Cherokee .32 with a.310 ball and 20 grains of 3f. My eyes are getting bad for the original open sights and just today I put a TC peep on it.
