I have 4 lot #'s of 180 ELDM's and they are basically 4 different bullets lol.So the reason I asked is that I have seen Hornady bullets kind of vary a bit. It's the sort of thing you measure when you're bored then wish you hadn't.
I just measured some - the remainder of a box of 130ELDMs and the remainder of a box of 147s.
Numbers (SDs calculated as from a sample, not a population):

So, the bad part of that isn't the numbers themselves (though those 130s seem all over the map to me).
The bad part is - the 130s are supposed to be 1.28" to 1.29" long. And the 147s are supposed to be 1.43" to 1.44" long. Not 1.314 and not 1.460. The sample I just measured of a few of both boxes all measure .264x" in diameter so I don't think my calipers are off. I think Hornady just makes bullets that vary in length.
Again, whether that's some terrible thing, depends on how they shoot.
I caught it because I set my seating die up to an old loaded round, then seated a new bullet and checked COAL and it was .040 difference. Then I started comparing all the lots and holy shit. And some lots absolutely shoot worse than others. So you can try 100 and have them hammer and think "hell yeah, I'll order 500". And they shoot much worse. Super frustrating. So I switched fully back to berger's, but am definitely looking forwards to trying TMK's now.
