New TMK announced

In looking at the Sierra press release, another new offering will be a 22 cal 77 gr Matchking-X.
The press release states:
Engineered for reliable expansion at midrange velocities, the MKX delivers match-grade accuracy in a true hunting bullet. With a high ballistic coefficient, it mirrors the performance of its MatchKing counterpart in flight, while providing the terminal performance hunters demand. From ringing steel to taking game, the MKX does not sacrifice precision for performance.

So Sierra has put the effort into designing a 22 cal 77 gr. hunting bullet- because the 77 gr. TMK is a match bullet not suitable for hunting! But they are calling it a Matchking-X.

To add to this irony, Form & company are testing the new Tipped Matchking offerings on game, and I assume providing feedback to Sierra.
Sierra's headquarters must be some kind of alternate universe staffed by ex millitary intelligence people. That somehow fall ass backwards into success. :ROFLMAO:

I figured they were just lazily following the Hornady "X" designation.

Sierra when you tell them TMKs are great for killing stuff:

Yes, almost always. When they don’t upset like they should, they produce wounds more like Terminal Ascents below 2,000fps impact.

Not that you are, but somehow this is getting misconstrued as to what is happening or being said. We are not saying “ELD-M’s suck”. We are saying some of them can be variable in their behavior- and it’s the wrong way. When they do something odd, it isn’t “massive huge wounds”- it’s lack of wound channel width. Unfortunately much like Hornady’s lot to lot inconsistency in loaded ammo- it seems to be getting worse.

Personally every real bullet I have seen “fail” in ballistics gel testing and in animals has been from a lack of upset- not exploding and failing to penetrate to the vitals.

Being that there are bullets that do not exhibit this behavior, or do it less often- ELD-M’s are not, and have not been my first choice for a long while.

My preference in general, in order-

1). TMK

2). NR DTAC or ELD-X

3). ELD-M or Bergers

4). NBT’s, Partitions, and or Fusions
I just bought a 243 and was planning on using 95gr NBTs. Glad to know they are so far down on your preference list!

147tmk? Don’t know that was a thing

So in that picture the TMKs both look to be less pointy in front (uh, technically speaking, lol) than the ELDM, which is consistent with what we've been told about favoring terminal performance over the last degree of high BC realization.

On the other hand, a) I can't gauge form factors by eyeballing an ogive, and b) the TMKs seem to have longer boattails which likely help a bit with higher BCs.

I'm really curious to see how the various offerings turn out in terms of what weights get offered in 6mm or 6.5 caliber (apparently there's still debate between 115-116-117 and 147-153?) and the actual BCs they make, and what twist rates they'll work in. The .243/107 is looking like the most commonsense easy button for 8-twist .243s. Which makes me wonder why all these manufacturers have shifted to 8-twist .243s when they could just as easily have done a 7.5 twist and covered all the bases. I guess maybe they're worried about lighter bullets spinning apart?
