New TMK announced

What are the chances the 153s stabilize at creedmoor speeds in the 1:8.7" twist Sauer I just got?

I would assume pretty high if they are less pointy than 147 eldms and those work.

The T3 action is something like 1/2” longer than an R700 short action. Why not just cut the barrel shorter and a new can?
I'd like to *eventually* at least put a shorter can on it and retire the existing one to a role where length isn't so important. but for what we do with it I am fairly content to let that rifle/can setup be 'close enough' right now. I'm in the process of cleaning out the safe to make room (and cash) for some new things but my honest main goal right now is to upgrade a couple of scopes, then a couple of new cans. A new dedicated hunting rifle in 6mmWhatever, is a 'want', more than a 'need', at least at the moment.

Honestly, I've been pretty well set for firearms, until my kids started shooting, at which point my middle child made me realize how nice suppressors are (I owned one can, then figured out she was very blast-sensitive, now I own 4) and then suddenly everything needs to be shortened and threaded and....ehhh, it's just a long process. I try to approach it like triage, doing the most important things first, but sometimes I find myself wanting new/shiny things just because they're new and shiny.

Ahh. That do happen to all think.

I wonder how those 153gr 6.5s would do in my 6.5x55? I can probably comefortably get them to 2600 FPS from my 18” barrel, or 2500 if I want any to keep case life respectable

I bought my kid a 20" tikka this summer. The stock is a hair short - youth length - but it has the longer-than-needed Tikka action, then a 20" barrel, and a can that's maybe 5.25". This rifle isn't 'short' in a treestand, certainly isn't 'short' when slung and walking through the woods, but it isn't terrible, either.

So I figure that if I built an 18" short action (like R700 or similar, and a Remington model 7 is within the realm of possibility) and put a reflex can on it that's only 4" out front, that would make it *maybe* 3" shorter than the Tikka I'm using as a reference.

That's *short enough* for me. My goal is to stay at 2000' or faster out to 500 yards for eastern hunting and perhaps 650-700 yards for western hunting (higher elevations). That is further than I'll ever shoot at game or desire to see my kids shoot at game.
I have a custom built off a Rem M7. It's fine, but there's no way if I was in your shoes that I would use one again. Stick with the Tikka, and cut the barrel off a bit more.

The 85.5 berger have been accurate in 100% of the 22 creeds my group has tried them in and been violent on 3 deer and 2 elk so far with less than 100 yards tracking for 5 animal. All shots between 350 and 650.
Have you fussed with the meplat at all? I’ve killed with some normal target hybrids but did notice on some of the 85.5’s the meplat is dang near closed. Not sure if that juice is worth the squeeze or just load em as is and shoot?

They're tipped aka pointed, all lrht Bergers are. Gives a more consistent bc from bullet to bullet. They should be opened up with a 0.030-0.040 wire bite before putting them into game. Yes a small loss of bc, like 2%, but RELIBALE bullet upset.

All jokes aside, we’d all love for it to work the way their marketing claims it will. That being said it’s just not there yet, all the actual results I’ve seen are less than exciting.
In what way? Accuracy? We must be looking in different places. I've seen issues with early produced ammo and with some Savage 110's. Both Federal and Savage acknowledged early production issues and have corrected them. People are getting sub moa with Savage's and Weatherby's. The more expensive guns were always shooters. And the advertised speed is certainly there. Did I miss something? Or is it just a meme to hate on something new? Genuine question. I've been trying to follow the peak alloy/7bc news as I'm interested in what other offerings it'll show up in. The Geissle video with alternating brass+peak alloy in a 223 AR and showing 300fps gain was very interesting to me. Don't want to derail the thread, but also not sure if I'm out of the loop. Is this in reference to the Allterra video from a year ago?

Full disclaimer I have not purposefully looked into the bc in any great detail. I just know I have not seen any independent reviews that showed it being anything to write home about. I have seen plenty of bought and paid for marketing videos of a chrono speed and a 3 shot group with nothing but praise. I guess more than anything I’m just skeptical of that. If it was truly living up to the marketing claims then I am genuinely curious why it isn’t more popular than it is.
