New TMK announced

What are the chances the 153s stabilize at creedmoor speeds in the 1:8.7" twist Sauer I just got?

I would assume pretty high if they are less pointy than 147 eldms and those work.

The T3 action is something like 1/2” longer than an R700 short action. Why not just cut the barrel shorter and a new can?
I'd like to *eventually* at least put a shorter can on it and retire the existing one to a role where length isn't so important. but for what we do with it I am fairly content to let that rifle/can setup be 'close enough' right now. I'm in the process of cleaning out the safe to make room (and cash) for some new things but my honest main goal right now is to upgrade a couple of scopes, then a couple of new cans. A new dedicated hunting rifle in 6mmWhatever, is a 'want', more than a 'need', at least at the moment.

Honestly, I've been pretty well set for firearms, until my kids started shooting, at which point my middle child made me realize how nice suppressors are (I owned one can, then figured out she was very blast-sensitive, now I own 4) and then suddenly everything needs to be shortened and threaded and....ehhh, it's just a long process. I try to approach it like triage, doing the most important things first, but sometimes I find myself wanting new/shiny things just because they're new and shiny.

Ahh. That do happen to all think.

I wonder how those 153gr 6.5s would do in my 6.5x55? I can probably comefortably get them to 2600 FPS from my 18” barrel, or 2500 if I want any to keep case life respectable

I bought my kid a 20" tikka this summer. The stock is a hair short - youth length - but it has the longer-than-needed Tikka action, then a 20" barrel, and a can that's maybe 5.25". This rifle isn't 'short' in a treestand, certainly isn't 'short' when slung and walking through the woods, but it isn't terrible, either.

So I figure that if I built an 18" short action (like R700 or similar, and a Remington model 7 is within the realm of possibility) and put a reflex can on it that's only 4" out front, that would make it *maybe* 3" shorter than the Tikka I'm using as a reference.

That's *short enough* for me. My goal is to stay at 2000' or faster out to 500 yards for eastern hunting and perhaps 650-700 yards for western hunting (higher elevations). That is further than I'll ever shoot at game or desire to see my kids shoot at game.
I have a custom built off a Rem M7. It's fine, but there's no way if I was in your shoes that I would use one again. Stick with the Tikka, and cut the barrel off a bit more.
