New TMK announced

I just want whatever version 6mm I can get in reliable factory loads. I feel like I roll the dice with hornady lots these days

Besides the 77tmk, Does anyone besides boutique outlets and Fed LEO load TMK in factory form?

Federal has a 110 tipped fusion coming, not sure they’d load the 107 with a sierra bullet but options would be nice

147 Ms have never posed an issue for me in killing, however, I have a ton more experience with 143 Xs and 129 SSTs going back over a decade.

I’ve been pretty vocal and consistent for years on here favoring SSTs and ELDXs over the Ms for killing, once you get below the 6.5mm. Just my personal observations. I recall most favoring Ms and questioning why I favored Xs and SSTs.

I think folks are getting a bit wrapped around the axle with this. Ms are still good bullets that kill well (I have seen personal issues with 108s, 88s, and 80s but they’ve still always led to dead animals). 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately, lately, the factory loaded offerings and bullets lot to lot from Hornady have been frustrating to say the least. This is not just Ms, this is the Xs and SSTs as well. Being nearly out of old lot numbers that were fantastic I’ve had to go back to the drawing board a bit this year.

156 and 115 Bergers have been incredibly consistent from accuracy and in flight performance, and have been good killers this year, but it’s still fairly low volume to make strong claims (around two dozen kills between myself and @huntnful). And he and I both tend to place shots with a high degree of killing potential.

Always happy to see more good killing bullet options. I’d love to mess around with the 6.5 and below options if they become attainable. Maybe even throw some 7mm through the 7SAUM but that will likely be complete overkill on animals.

@Formidilosus where do the matchking x fit in your hunting bullet preference, and do you think these new tmks will perform better than the matchking x and smks

I haven’t used the X’s enough to say, the 6mm version has a pretty low BC for weight. As for TMK’s, there isn’t another bullet other than the Partition that is as consistent.

Interesting. If kept above 2000 fps in 6.5mm would your preference still be 143, 147/156?

Those are the most available for me, TMKs are a rare find in Canada unfortunately…
There are multiple places to get them online in Canada right meow

As an aside. I’ve had bad experiences with 140 ELD-M’s both this season and last. I don’t want to move on because I hate reloading but I think it’s time. I found the 42.0gr h4350/140 ELDM at factory length shoots lights out, now I just need to find the equivalent load with TMK’s. Or I just shoot this barrel out once and for all and move to a 6mm for a fresh start.

Good to know. Been out of reloading for a bit, but want to start again. Should probably dig a little deeper for some online sources.

I’m pessimistic about Sierras ability to make enough to support the demand and seeing’s how they still don’t know the exact weight means to me it’s low on their priority list.
You are reading it wrong. There are shooters that are trying different versions and will determine which it is.
Definitely

Listen to interviews with any of the bullet manufacturers' ballisticians and engineers and you will hear references to all manner of grain weights as designs progressed.

I kill hundreds of animals a year, I mainly use 80gr ELDM, they work wonderfully and are not in any way terminally inconsistent

153s are definitely going to be seated on top of a max charge of 4831SC in my 6.5x284, the whole list looks legit but oh man that 153 is gonna be mean.

From the linked press release on pg 1.
"With the proprietary acetyl resin tips added and ogive dimension changes, the ballistic coefficient is even further enhanced to increase down-range performance. "

Perhaps a bit more like the ELDM line?

My RS crystal ball agrees.
It’s a small club and we ain’t in it.
If you’ve been paying attention the most vociferous are already changing tune on many of the old tried and true rs specials.
Few years ago the ELD-M was the “ELD-Murder” now it’s unpredictable.

The caps on the maven are so aggressively knurled you’re lucky if they don’t twist all the way off walking to your glassing knob. Better glove up if you need to dial

Classifieds finna be lit with 77 and 95 TMKs, 115 Dtacs and all manner of Hornady eld bullets. Then if the scope ever hits bar the doors as a flood of Mavens, trijicon and nightforce hit the classifieds.

For the record I started the ELD-MURDER moniker and still shoot them almost exclusively with very little intention to change. The 88s are the exception as they're the only one that's tough to get good accuracy with. I recently tried the Berger 85.5 and this was the only way I could make it palatable. (I've previously talked a bunch of shit about bergers to my friends)

That's a sharpie red colored tip FYI
