Just ordered a new T3x lite 308. Suggestions for optics setup, rings, picatanny rails? I need to keep it close to $500 if possible. I will be shooting game with it from 50-400 yards, elk, whitetail, mule deer, antelope, maybe a black bear, caribou also. 2x-8x does catch my eye, but what millimeter tube would be optimal. What do you have for setups/suggestions and any suppliers that carry the goods. Thanks.

Mountain Tactical has a Tikka Performance shop on their website - a picatinny rail with integral lug to fit Tikka bridge recess, aluminum, MOA & 20 MOA options - reasonable cost
for rings the world is your oyster -

I just traded my factory rings for some Talley Lightweights I bought here in the classifieds. They are good so far. My gun came with a Meopta Meopro 3-9-42. I had no experience with them before but this thing is much better than my 3-9-40 Nikon Monarch UCC and VX3 1.5-5-20. Its light too.

Leupold VX3i 4.5 x 14 x 40 CDS mounted in the DNZ one piece mount on my T3 Super Lite 7RM. Quite happy wit it and well under $500.

I'm running a Mountain Tactical rail (one of their 'seconds' with the wonky bluing) and a VX2 2-8x32 with the LR duplex reticle. I'm very comfortable with it out to 500yds on my .30-06
My .308s are all 300 & under guns & run smaller scopes.
A 25mm tube will be perfectly adequate.

I have the same rifle in 30-06 and I went with the warne picatinny/low rings and a leupold fixed 6x FX-3. Couldn't be happier with this simple setup and did not break the bank.

Great information guys, thanks,,, I want lighter of course but equipment that can take some heavy use is where I try to spend my funds.

I tend to think vortex is some of the best bang for the buck on glass. I have 3 of their scopes at various price points and am happy with all. They have some discounts for mil and Leo if you qualify.

About a month ago I set up a T3 lite in 6.5 Swede. Put a VX3 4.5-14 40mm CDS with 30mm tube and XLow Talley lightweigts. Worked up some hand loads with R23, and 143gr ELD-X. Shot lights out @ 2860 fps. Think I spent about $525 on rings and scope. If you want beefier rings go Warne Maxima. If i recall the talleys weighted 2.5 oz and the warnes were 5oz. both rings were real close in height.

what other scopes do you have and have put through the "ringer" ?

SWFA 6X SS Classic scope in DNZ mount on my Tikka 308. Has turned out to be one hell of a good combo that is tough and reliable.

Agreed. The SWFA 6X SS would work perfect for your application. I generally stick with Seekins, NF, or Badger Ordnance hardware. More weight, but less drama.
