New Tikka is here!!! T3X

Different grips on the stock, some foam in the stock I don't care about. The ejection port I was fine with the old one. The calibers I run the talley rings hold up fine. A nicer recoil pad is good but that was available aftermarket if desired.

So overall nothing excites me about it except maybe the regular T3s will get discounted??? :)

I do have to laugh on "new" tikka a tad as I have two M695s and only one T3. (The M695s aren't as light but run more generous mag length, ~3.48" vs the T3) ;)

The improvements are:

-Steel recoil Lug
- Metal bolt shroud
- Changeable grip
- Proper recoil pad
- Free Floated barrel on the synthetic stock

I might be missing some.

Yeah, kinda underwhelming. Some decent improvements but not worth calling it a new model.

I'm also surprised they have the fluted barrel as an option but only in wood stock. I guess Cabelas and Sportsmans Warehouse will still have the exclusive "Superlite".

Where do you see the notes about the shroud, lug and floated barrel? I must be missing it under their listed features. I've only looked at the stainless synthetic though.

It was posted on the Tikka forum. I'm still looking to see where they mention those improvements as well.

Yeah, the lug and shroud have been rumored but they really only seem to be hotly contested issues where people are concerned about them and possible failure but actual occurrences seem to be rare and in extreme instances.

I'm thinking about going to pick up a T3x super lite from Sportsmans Warehouse whenever they get them in. I hope they don't jack up the price for all of the "new" features.

Didn't see mention of the lug (that was also easily changeable if previously desired and cheap) or the shroud (changeable but not that cheap but needed???). What's this about free floating being new? Has someone had one that wasn't? All of mine are.

As someone posted above its a bit underwhelming BUT if the regular T3s go on clearance I will not complain one bit!

I just added a steel recoil lug "just because I was doing some other stuff to it" and I did notice a distinct imprint on the aluminum one - I just thought about that as I read this, if I didn't already toss it I'll take a picture and post it, it was that obvious

Yeah, I'm sure that wear is noticeable. How many rounds would you say were through that rifle before you changed the lug out? I'm not denying that a steel lug wouldn't have better longevity. I just don't know that the possibility of an actual failure of the lug or a drastic change in accuracy is a real concern, do you? I know you have much more experience with Tikkas than I probably ever will.

I'm glad I waited. What do you all think of the new T3X?

they've added a set trigger but no 3 function safety that I see

they make no mention that I can see of what the T3x weighs, it usually is stated albeit in kg

as it doesn't cost that much to make the changes we all have come to see as "essential" I'd think the OTC had better not increase much

I'd say around 150 rounds - I have no idea if it will affect it's accuracy and I don't see how it could "fail" as there is plenty of stock holding onto the action as well as the lug - it was merely an observation that I noticed when I changed it out - it can be seen and slightly palpated but far from a separation or tear in the metal

If anybody here buys the "new" model, please post a review. I'm curious to hear how the new one performs although I don't think it will be much different than the original.

Weights are listed in the spec PDFs. The lites say 2.7 kg to 2.9 kg, I'd assume due to barrel length differences, and maybe two different action sizes??

Unless they changed things the T3 runs a long action with shorter stops for SA calibers and in turn doesn't allow longer COAL for LA in the mags. I am guessing that is the 22" vs 24" barrels like before.

Not impressed..... I would get rid of the factory stock anyway. Most of the improvements center around the stock. I hope the t3's go on clearance so I can pick a few more up.
