Hey everyone,
I am preparing to transition from a traditional truck/base camp setup to backcountry backpack hunting. I mainly do early fall archery deer and elk (September) with an occasional later rifle hunt, so I am looking to completely overhaul my heavy base camp sleep system for something lightweight and compact.
Shelter Dilemma:
I am torn between a floored vs. floorless setup and am looking at the Kuiu Summit 1P or the Argali Owyhee 1P.
  • For those who have run both styles for early fall archery, what’s your real-world experience regarding condensation and floorless versatility?
Sleeping Bag Options:
I've been looking at the Sitka Hyper Down bag and the PEAX Solace bag.
  • Is it worth going the traditional commercial brand route with these, or am I better off looking at high-end lightweight quilts/bags like Stone Glacier, Western Mountaineering, or Katabatic Gear?
Pad & Pillow Setup:
What is the current go-to lightweight pad and pillow setup that balances a solid R-value (for when temperatures unexpectedly dip into the 20s) with low pack volume?
For context, I am looking to minimize bulk as much as possible to fit everything into my pack without fighting it. Any insight or alternative gear suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You don’t need to be torn about running the above tents floored or floor less, they can do both. Good weather and camping where there’s a breeze, can run without the insert, or poor weather/ bugs, add the inner. Or lots of folks run an ultralight bivy from katabatic or borah gear under the rain fly portion of the tarp style tents, works for bugs and ground moisture barrier while usually being half the weight of an inner tent. Add durston tents to your search as well. Thermarest Neoair is a good choice on pad, if you sleep cold or want to run late season get the xtherm version.

Where you are coming from a comfortable base camp, I’d suggest starting with a full double wall tent that is Lightweight. I use floor less and double wall, and the double wall seems more “secure” as far as mentally when you’re in it. I like Durston tents. Very lightweight and durable for what they are. I also like my floorless tent from Argali if your convinced you’ll like that.
